Default ATTENTION A MUST CHECK * * check Radiator by pass cap

Well guys its happened to me now , the by pass hose cap blew, this is the one located on the upper right side behind and under the shifter cables, it made a real mess of the dash as the steam flowed up thur and around it. my Stallion a 09 with about 7K miles on it. so its not the milage but the age. its not easy to see the cap maybe only 3/4 of an inch high with a hose clamp on it the complete top of mine came off ! i limped in to the Advance Auto parts store about 20 miles after stoping twice to add coolant ( water that i had in a cooler ) and bought a box of caps assorted sizes i beleve its was about $8.00 and the store mgr. even put it on for me , now i have to find the one at the rear of the trike and change it before it goes also, i know someone had wrote about that one earlier but i dont remimber where it was left side right side ? if i had to do it over and was at home or at a shop i would use 5/8 reinforced heater hose maybe 4-6 inches long and a 5/8 stainless steel bolt to cap it off with just my 2 cent.....

The one on the back is on the left side and it is 3/4" hose. The oem caps they use are obviously vacuum caps because they do not appear to be very substantial. I changed mine early on as I could see the cracks in the caps when they were only a couple of years old.

Yes they need to be replaced with radiator hose. I posted about this several years ago. I was luck mine just started dripping and I caught it early. Found the other one and replaced them both. No problems since. Sometime things need to be brought up again for the new members.

I replaced mine with water pump caps that are used when you remove the heater lines. I got them from NAPA. Rick

Wow , thanks guys . This is strange , what timing .We were getting ready to go on our 1st ride at the snowbirds gathering ,Tomg showed me how he fixed his that morning . Around 3 o 'clock we were on our way home 2/8/16 & we see steam coming up from hood . It was just dripping , a fellow biker stopped , said he lived around the corner & he had a 1/2 gal . of anti-freeze .Got on our way , seen an 0'Reillys , got the hose , clamps ,a plug & a long screw driver , now 20 miles to campground & got it fixed , We have an 09 stallion , with 16,058.

miles on it .Now , the big question ,lol, DID TOMG JINXED ME OR SAVED ME ?

Well I think we all know the answer toooo that one . thanks buddy

On the rear of the trike, left side, look up around the radiator, you will see the cap.

Changed mine several years ago when Gorilla let us know about the problem. It is good to bring things up like this for the guys that weren't on Trike Talk then. Hope everyone that see this will get theirs changed before you are out on the road in the middle of nowhere and it blows leaving you stranded and saying "man I wish I would have listen to those guys and changed it". Hope you are back on the road and enjoying the riding down there.

Well guys, I'm confused a little here. I have #526 and have replaced the front cap as many of us have but, I do not have the same type of fitting/cap as seen in a photo of the rear area in question. What year or serial # of the stallion had this issue? Did TMS change our the radiator somewhere along the line?

On my 08 Stallion the cap we are talking about is on the left side and you can see it when you look up the side of the radiator from the ground. It's at the bottom about six inches up and you should be able to see it easy if your Stallion has one.

Well I know 3 people in the last month that have had to repair the plastic cap fitting on the right side under the shifter! How many more times do we have to warn you about this flaw in the radiator line before someone else breaks down on the road? It is a 10 minute fix so smarten up and fix it now while you are not in an emergency! !

    Default Coolant Bypass Cap

Does anyone have a part number or something for each of these plugs? I am assuming that these are the same size plugs … also, does the coolant system have to be drained to replace these plugs?

Most of us used heater hose about 4" long and a bolt in the top. Clamp on both end of the hose. Tomg
