Hello! Newby here...

So, I have never rode before. Cannot get a two wheeler
due to my knee is blown out and I cannot use my leg to
put down and balance a bike. So I thought about getting
a new HD street glide trike. How would that be learning to
ride on? Anyone here who did something like this? Thanks for
any replies!

Welcome Sideshow! You didn't mention if you already have a license or not, but if you don't you'll want to check with your state to see what you'll need to do. I know some states have endorsements/licenses just for trikes; here in MA &amp; the surrounding areas you need a motorcycle license. That means the road test must be taken on a 2wheel. If your state is the same, the easiest way is by taking one of the MSF or Evergreen courses - they generally use smaller bikes, so if you have to go that route to get a license it should be fairly easy for you to hold the bike up long enough to pass. After that, you can trike away and never look back (which is exactly what I did! <img src="images/smilies/wink.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Wink" class="inlineimg" />).<br /><br />

As far as learning to ride the trike....I never rode a bike before, other than a few rides as passenger MANY years ago! I took the MSF course in Sept 2006 and didn't ride anything afterward for a number of reasons. In July 2007 I bought a trike and had it delivered to my house. After a weekend practicing in my driveway (600 feet of winding dirt &amp; gravel, up &amp; down hill) I took to local streets, then just started pushing my limits a bit each time.<br />

In May 2008 I rode to Americade in NY, about 185 miles from me.<br /><br />

As long as you can get the shifting, you'll do just fine!!

Just remember to relax and enjoy!! And frankly, I can't see how you wouldn't be able to do that on a Harley trike! :yes:

Spiritdream, down here in Ct. you do need a M/C licence to drive a trike but you can take the test on your trike IF you can prove to DMV that you are physically challenged as that riding a two wheeler would present a problem.

This does not mean you have to meet the same physical requirments as for a HP plate and mirror tag. But you do need something like a letter from your doctor.

Having not ridden before, you do not have to unlearn bike habits. Trike is the way to go for any of us with life challenges. Mine is an add-on voyager kit due to cost, son about to go to college. I still enjoy, as does the wife. You will too! Welcome!

Like Spirit dream said -- different states have different requirements. Here in Nevada, a regular driver's license is also good for trikes. Helmets are not required on trikes but are on bikes -- BUT when doing battle with cages, I like my head protected. California also uses regurlar driver's license for trikes, last I heard -- that might have changed. Also, as Denviola pointed out, you don't have any bad habits from biking to relearn so you should get used to trikeing easier than some of us who rode bikes for years. Read everything you can here -- there's LOTS of good advice! Above all, have fun!!<br />

Not sure if You have previous Motorcycle Experience or not, but can be mastered pretty quickly, regardless. In some ays, I think my vast motorcycle 2-wheel mileage was a "slight" hindrance...about 4000 miles later on the Trike and it's all "normal fare" now.....enjoyin' it more than 2 Wheels...Get One, You'll be glad You did, and WELCOME to TRIKE TALK.....
