I would not be without it. If you don't put it on before your trip i think you will regret it.Just my .02cents. Believe me i learned the hard way back in 07. i am sure others will be chiming in on this subject soon.
Around 15 years ago ,my wife had a motor trike, that she road to the beach and back. When we got home I ordered a rake kit at her request . When I built the Roadsmith ,it was raked before it left the garage the 1st time.
Rev Ray I will probably end up with the kit but want to try it before our trip. It is not until June. That gives me plenty of time to swap it myself.
Today I would rake it and I wouldn't give it a second thought !

Well I guess it truly depends on the kit installed. Since the Motor Trike I am purchasing is the same wheelbase as factory, that's the reason I am going to try it without first. If I would've purchased a Roadsmith or Hannigan I would have definitely ordered one with the kit.
I have a MT kit ,not the razor, I think it's called the classic and no rake. I think MT says you may not need the rake kit because it the same wheel base as the GW. I have never seen the reason for the rake on mine,it is my first trike but it reminds me of riding a ATV. I'm 59 ,maybe if I were older I might want one.I'm with you I think I would try it out first before I dropped several hundred dollars on something you may not need.
Several hundred, how about an additional $1,328 including tax for the kit with installation. If I feel I need to get this done, unless Zook has a 4.5 kit available, I can get one from another vendor for $600. I install it myself, and save a whopping $700. That's over half of it saved to spend on other goodies, such as chrome, which I desperately need.
I rode a Tri Glide for 3.5 years, they are not raked. At the end of a long day of riding I was whipped. My Razor has 6 degree. I rode the 4.5 and it was fine, the 6 is a little squirely at first but I will get used to it if the snow every melts and spring shows up.

Yeah you are right around the corner from me. But I am up on the Plateau, and we seem to get hammered more than you folks down in Nashville. My brother lives in Hendersonville. I too long to be riding again. It looks like next Friday is supposed to be 63 degrees and I hope to hop on the bike to take it to Southern Honda Powersports for the conversion process to begin.
A rake kit is the best money you will ever spend on your trike Steve. I used to say they are optional, but if you ride a lot they really are not in my opinion, especially where you live with all the twisties. Get the 4.5 degree and you'll love it.

I owned a 1500 Goldwing Motor Trike and it was not raked. I loved the trike itself but the labor involved in operating the trike both in confined qtrs. and on country roads was not giving me the experience I expected. I traded it for an 1800 that is raked and I will never have another that is not. It seems effortless compared to the other.
i can't speak for the 1800 with a MT kit but with my 1500 with the Champion I wouldn't want it without a rake kit here in our twisties.I believe it keeps a stock or very close wheelbase figure.Thats just my opinion.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I truly believe that I will probably order a rake kit. But since I am a stubborn cuss, I have to be hard headed and try it without the kit first. It is no problem for me to install it myself at time after I begin riding with the kit. Besides I have to figure out how to add the tube extensions to them, since I have Progressive Monotones and they come with their own threaded caps already. I am quite sure I can do it, I just need the parts to confirm the thread sizes. I already have the size of the thread from Progressive.
If anyone knows if the ones that come with the rake kit from Bazooka fit without modification to the Monotubes, please feel free to chime in.

I have the Adventurer kit on my 2010 and its raked. Wouldn't have it any other way. Short wheel base or not its like power steering for a bike.
Turns particularly lefts as in U-Turns are effortless. Turn from your left hand lane right into the opposite left lane without swinging it practically to the far side curb. Just makes steering over a lot easier.
I didn't go with the rake kit on my Razor. Drove it 15 miles to my house and knew I should have raked it. Got mine from Zook. Super nice tree. I also have monotubes. You do not use the caps when you rake Mine came out level without caps. A friend of mine that sells and installs monotubes does not recommend the caps.
Thanks for the information Ferg; I just ordered mine from Zook. I will install it shortly after my first few rides. I just would like to be able to experience the difference. And I am quite capable of doing the installation since I put in the Monotubes anyway; and All Balls steering head bearings when it was new.

I have a 2010 Adventurer kit.
Don't believe MTs bs about not needing it raked due to the shorter wheel base. You don't "need" to rake any trike.
Life is much better raked. 4.5 is more then great.
Rake it. Don't look back.
Its like power steering for a trike.
Making turns, say a U-turn. Left lane to the other direction. Took up 3.5 lanes of a 4 lane road. Raked, I can now turn into the closet lane. 1.5 lanes at most.
Just do it.......
