Right hand brake master cylinder paint falure

Recently, the paint on the right side master cylinder on my '14 TriGlide started failing. Most of the damage is around the top of the main body, near the gasket surface; the paint is apparently blistering from the metal surface outward. There are a few spots where it is down to bare metal, and the metal is actually oxidizing. I mentioned this to a Harley service advisor (didn't have the bike with me at the time) and he said as long as the bike was still under warranty (it is) that it SHOULD be a warranty repair. I have never had the right side master cylinder cover off.

Anyone else ever seen anything like this? I know that DOT4 brake fluid us pretty aggressive, but I have never seen anything like this before.

Actually it is quite common on most bike/trike master cylinder due to the brake fluid. If it is a little loose the fluid will seep and boil the paint. Most brake fluid not just DOT 4 will do this unless its synthetic. Just get it fixed and check the cover screw tightness every once in awhile.

My Road Glide did the same thing after I got it back from the dealer from getting a 10k service done. Those guys just don't take the care they would on their own rides.

Yes i have seen it happen...That was as problem with some Can-Am Spyder's' So much so that it corroded some frames..
Brake fluid is corrosive...... Very Corrosive, Just a little weeping at the gasket will strip the paint down to bare metal and etch it...
