New member, looking for first trike.

Afternoon all.
New member to the board and looking forward to gleaming mucho info. My first, and last motorcycle was a Honda CB350 that I bought back in 1975 and rode for about a year and half. That was the last time I have been on a MC. Now that I'm orlder and wiser? I am having an advanced midlife crisis and want to purchase a trike. Like the idea of the third wheel. Currently looking at a 2008 Harley Davidson-Lehman Trike TRI-GLIDE. Has real low mileage and is in excellent condition. Can't wait to ride again!

Welcome aboard. Glad you joined us. Not to be critical but HD did not sell the first TRI-Glide until 2009. The first 2 years of the TRI were a sub-contract to Lehman to install the rear section but this was a HD design not a Lehman. 2011 the TRI construction moved to the YORK HD plant for a total HD construction. If thr trike you are looking at is titled a 2008 it is NOT a TRI, but a HD with a Lehman conversion. Post some pictures of it and let us know what the price is we can tell you if it's a good deal or not. Mileage?

Thanks for the clarification. I should have acknowledged that is was a conversion. Still getting used to all the terms of the build. This is the info I received from the owner

pictures look good. Mileage is outstanding except there is factors about not ridden enough. I would say in the mid teens for a price.

Seller is asking $20K. Not ridden much due to health problems. It did pass inspection last year.

If you like it try and get it down as much as possible. Bottom line the price is what someone is willing to pay.

You might make it a post on the forum to the NC. membership asking for a reputable trike knowledgeable shop?

To get an idea of what you might look for you could go online and download the installation manual for the trike kit?

Axle and Belt alignment, condition, tension etc. could tell you allot about the bike and how it's been maintained etc. Torque values on bolts and fasteners are important also.

The truth of the matter is that the person who built it and the one who turns wrenches on it are critical to how safe and trustworthy your trike is.
If it's done right I wouldn't worry too much about it.
It doesn't have enough miles on it to be too bad anyway!
If nothing else a shop can insure belt/axle alignment and check torque values and that would be worth it.
If your at all handy with a wrench you can do it yourself without a whole lot of trouble.
The trouble with trikes is that maintaining them scares people and it shouldn't. Most is common sense.
If you download the instruction manual it will give torque values and I suggest you buy the official Harley Davidson or whatever make the trike is motor manual to have for reference.

If you google- pcombe library/photobucket you can pull up pictures of my build and get allot of info on what you should look for?
Mine is a champion kit but you will likely see some real similarities in design.
