Default Honda Valkyrie Roadsmith Build With Pictures

One of our Texas members (Elliot A/K/A TW) brought us his very nice GL1500CT Pearl Sonoma Green & Creme 1997 Honda Valkyrie Tour to convert. After a lot of research on this site, and a long visit at our shop in Conroe, he decided to go with the Roadsmith conversion. This thread will document the build.

Uncrating the Roadsmith conversion. Simplicity, but a very well engineered and bullet-proof design that has been well tested in the market. Elliot opted for the upgrade, HD anti-sway bar.

We removed the seats, backrest, hard bags & mounts, lights and the rear half of the fender, no cutting of the Valk rear fender is necessary as its made in two pieces. We also removed the rear swingarm, shocks and wheel assembly and disconnected the brake line. Roadsmith utilizes the stock factory exhaust system and on this particular conversion it stays in place.

Kit in place, mounting brackets installed, now to bolt everything together with grade 8 bolts, nylock nuts or locktite on the smaller non-locking nuts, torque and witness mark all the bolts, hook up and bleed the brakes and install the 6 degree rake kit, tapered bearings and races. The bar shown above, serves two purposes. One, it is the receiver hitch for pulling a trailer and two, the crossbar provides the two rear mounting points for the body. Simple and well engineered.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

You have a fine ride,Elliot. Valkyries are excellent machines. I sure loved my 99 Valk. Does yours still have the standard 5.3gal fuel tank or the 7.1gal Interstate unit?
