Attached is a photo of my completed "DK Custom Products - Oil Filter Relocation" kit. Wanted to let everyone know that the quality is awesome and the installation went extremely well with some modifications to Kevin's enclosed instructions, at least for anyone who has an OEM oil cooler in place. After analyzing the proposed installation on my Trike I was a little confused with how to incorporate the OEM oil cooler with the hose piping, so I contacted Kevin who was extremely helpful and immediately accessible - i.e. YOU DO NOT include the OEM oil cooler in the piping of the filter relocation. The filter relocation kit does not alter the piping for the OEM oil cooler.

After getting straightened out by Kevin, things went very well with the exception of installing the oil filter adapter in place of the OEM filter. Since there is NO room to install/tighten the hose clamps I had to alter the directions somewhat to get the filter adapter installed.
    1) I cut the 96" hose into 2 individual pieces (after all piping completed I had two 12" pieces of hose left over)
    2) I installed the hosed and fittings on the oil filter adapter prior to installing it in place of the OEM filter.
    3) Since I anticipated screwing it on Clockwise, I twisted the hoses Counter Clockwise so when I installed it Clockwise the hose was not tangling as I twisted the adapter in place. Also, it is extremely difficult (no room) to get the adapter sufficiently tight, I took a short piece of wood and wedged it against the fittings and tapped it with a plastic hammer (gently I might say!!) and got it sufficiently tight to prevent any leakage.

This may sound rather difficult, but it was not and I am extremely happy with the product and how the installation went. I only wanted to post due to the difficulty in installing/tightening the adapter.

Had the original OEM hose barb fittings for the oil cooler been on the bottom (under the filter), I am sure everything would have been better and following the enclosed installation instructions would have been possible.

If anyone is on the fence regarding this relocation kit I would highly recommend "getting off the fence" and installing one ASAP. Annnnnd NO I do not work for Kevin!!!

    Hi Joe,

We're working on it. The Dual-Cool will fit...it's the oil filter relocation that needs to be re-worked for Pre-09 Touring models, all Dyna, Softail and Sportster models. They're in the works!

Kruzr, I am going to let Kevin handle this request as I do not have a lift to get in a position to take a photo. I can tell you though that it is NOT an issue regarding clearance. I laid on my back to get the hoses positioned and I don't think I could satisfy your request for the photo you are looking for without having the Trike elevated on a lift!! I can tell you that all clearances (belt, exhaust, motor/trans, etc.) were a non issue.

Here are a couple of pics.

Any radiant heat from the exhaust is not going to affect the temps of the oil filter.

Getting the oil filter away from the engine is one of the cooling benefits, both for the filter and because the filter is not blocking the air from hitting the engine anymore.

    Lots of clearance-

Hi Kevin! Just received/install a black housing on my K&P filter but I think it may be powder coated, and yours appears to be anodized. I like it better than the clear aluminum color. Kinda makes it go away!! Hope you are receiving a lot of orders, as it is a great product.

Yes, that one on my TG is anodized and has over 130,000 miles on it. You can see it is discolored a bit. (the camera shows it a bit more than it looks to the naked eye)

I suppose I should put our newest version on (that has the better finish and the nut with a hole for the safety wire), it would look better...but this one is still functioning as good as a brand new one, so I just have not done it.

Yes, we are shipping a lot of orders out for these. I have not even started making it known to the 2 wheelers yet...gotta get ahead on production a little more before I do that.

    Default Questions on hose connections

The plan is to install the cooler and relocation kit on my TG at the same time. It's hard to tell from the pictures, in some cases, but are the hose lines attached at the hose barbs in all locations by hose clamps? It looks like some installations using the braided hose lines have threaded hose connections.

I'd much prefer threaded connections. Is this an option?

Some of the pictures you see have black or chrome hose clamp covers. All the connections are with hose clamps and they will not leak. There is nothing wrong with using threaded hose connections, and you can pick those up at a local store if you want it for the looks. There is no functional advantage in this application.

    Thanks, Kevin!

I have a lot of experience with aircraft, with lines using threaded connections for obvious reasons. But the TG oil pressure rarely exceeds 35 psi, so the clamps should be more than adequate.

Enjoy your ride; I'll be looking forward to seeing each day's post. And hopefully have the oil cooler/filter relocation kit installed by the time you return.

    Safe riding!
