Found this forum last week and just got around to joining. Im new to trikes but not to motorcycles. Got my trike last year. Its an 87 Interstate in super nice shape. Put one mile on it last year and hit a guard rail. It threw me off and rolled into a schoolbus (parked). Lots of damage to the fairing but no structural damage. SO, I gathered all the parts from ebay and repaired it over the winter. Looks as good as ever and then some. I was a little to hasty and naieve to ride and thought that with 40 yrs plus on 2 wheels that it would be no problem.<br />

I still cant figure out how it happened but that was last year.

This year I have about 300 miles so far and its just starting to feel comfortable. I haveleg problems so no more 2 wheels but that isnt the reason I wanted the trike. I think they are so cool that I just had to have one. Looked for over a year on ebay b4 this one came up. Im looking forward to putting some miles on. It has only 31,000 on now and runs excellant. I always like other opinions and would appreciate any help or advice during this learning curve.

I have heard many horror stories like yours. Guy takes off on buddies trike thought it was kids stuff . Ran into a telephone pole on the first corner he took. Another guy tried a trike for the first time, came back and said the trike wont turn a corner.

Hi Joe and welcome! Glad you found us. Just take it real easy starting out and you'll get the hang of it pretty quick. I usually tell people that it's more like riding an ATV (4 wheeler) than riding a bike. Think that way and see how it turns out... Just glad you weren't injured and the trike could be repaired. I just got my new trike after riding on two wheels for ever it seems. It does take some getting used too but sure do enjoy not worrying every time I came to a stop. Always looking for more knowledge about riding a trike. I am getting comfortable with cornering. Anyone have good advice as to how they judge a corner's speed when not posted? Thanks, DW

when the co rider starts bangging on the back of your helmet , Chances are you took it to fast. Posted corners 10 + un posted I keep around 45 to 50. I brake before the corner to about 40 look lean and pour it on.

Took the wife and I awhile to be able to afford a trike but sure are glad we did great fun took awhile to get the hang of it but best theing we ever did.

Hello Joe and welcome to the website from the U.P. of Michigan. Sorry your first experience on a trike was a bad one. Hopefully from now on the rest will be a lot better. And the trike survived also, so both of you have some comradeship now. I recommend to all new riders to practice some maneuvers in an empty parking lot. Using traffic cones set them about 50 feet apart then do figure 8s around them. Once you are comfortable at that move them a little closer. Also, remember when you are refueling those yellow posts jump right out at you. Take your time, and ride safe.

Hi Joe - welcome to TrikeTalk, glad you found us. We know a "little" bit about '87-1200 Wings. Couple hundred miles you'll start to get comfortable, couple thousand, you'll be an old pro. Take your time.<br />
