Trailer question

Ok, just added another accessory (spent most of the day yesterday putting it together) We got us a small trailer,and once it was all together I realized that we are probably gonna need a raised hitch. I already ordered a standard hitch directly from Motor Trike. Does MT carry a raised/drop hitch,or am I gonna need to search elsewhere or have one custom fabricated??

Not sure about Motor Trike, but I was glad I did not pay through the nose for the drawbar/ball mount that Champion offers for my VTX1800 kit. I, too, needed a ballmount with a 3 1/8 inch rise, not counting the height of the ball itself. Try etrailer.com

It is just a slide in hitch. so U should be able to find it most anywhere..
Why do U think U are going to need a raised one????

Yes,just a standard receiver,but it is much smaller than anything I have ever seen. Not really blessed with gobs of time,so I figured I would goto the source.
Once the trailer was all assembled, the hitch for the trailer is a good 4 inches higher than where a straight drawbar will exit behind the trike(pic in my albums)

I'm not sure where Wheeler is, but if in the Dallas area I would try Joe's Hitch and Trailer. I had the same problem with my Stallion and they made a new receiver for me that was three inches taller and one inch further back. Did a great job. Now my Bushtec trailer sits level.

This has come up on another forum! It seems most Trike Kit manufacturers each have their own ideas of the size the receiver on their hitches should be!
The rise or fall needed should be made up in the draw bar that mounts into the hitch receiver, not in the height of the receiver.
A lot of owners are going to welding shops and having class one receivers adapted to the hitches thay have.
That way you can buy the proper ride/fall draw bar needed for your use.
I understand at least one trike company makes the receivers and the draw bars round!

Ok, found the right drawbar over on "etrailer.com" (for a helluva lot cheaper price too) My next issue is do I buy a 3 1/8 rise or a 4?? the center of my receiver is 9 3/4 from the ground and the center of the trailer ball is 15".

These numbers are without anyone on the bike,and anytime the trailer is attached,we will 2 up.

When buying the correct rise on your drawbar, be sure to go a bit low, rather than higher. A trailer should be level or a bit lower in the front. If the rear of the trailer is the lowest point, it tends to act like a trailer overloaded to the rear, and could, in severe situations actually whip right and left at certain speeds.

Forgot to finish my line of thought.......A year ago, I picked up a small camping trailer while on a trip to Arizona. My drawbar was a little high, and out on the highway at 65 to 70 mph it would move back and forth, right and left. I stopped at a walmart (with heavy highway and tourist traffic) and they carried the correct drawbar in several heights. Got my fix for under $12!!

BTW, Does anyone have any use for a swivel ball type ball hitch??
