We broke down last Monday about 150 miles from home. The drive shaft broke at the yoke possible caused by the spring cap falling off or whatever the was no tension on the spline.

THERE WAS NO CHIRPING OR OTHER WARNINGS

Only had 28000 on the Champion kit but its out of warranty. My bike is very well maintained probably to the excess. It was triked in 2005.

The replacment cost was $523.00 and Champion could care less what could have been the failure. Except the new one is redesigned.

But to there credit they are shipping the part asap at my expense. They people I talked to on the phone were very empathetic remember they are just the messengers.

So final costs with towing will be about $800.00.

So please do your homework when picking a kit make sure they standby there design and at lesast show they really care.

Sad way to do customers.--The trike industry is going strong now but when things slow down for them customer relations will be a strong factor in deciding who will survive.
I have been in business since 1974 Justin Motorcycle Hearse - Motorcycle Hearse

and have replaced parts for folks who bought their units from us 10-15 years ago , often charging only for the shipping. This practice has generated a lot more sales than what replacing a few parts have cost us.

That said, my previous trike was a Leman and i switched to Champion this time because of Lemans customer relations

My post is slightly off topic but still on point.....I posted a comment on another forum regarding a slight pinging I hear coming from my right Rush slip-on muffler. Within just a short while I received an unexpected PM from Ryan at Rush recommending a solution and offering warranty service if required. I've had the same mufflers since the bike was a two wheeler (2 years) and Rush was still willing to stand by their product!! I've heard nothing but good comments regarding Champion products....that's the big reason I chose their kit.....but it seems they could have at least replaced the part for their cost plus shipping.

Several months ago i was looking for some parts and e mailed Champion three times and never got a response.
Seem's business owners would look around and realize that GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE is one of the main reason's the American car industry took a back seat to the imports.

So, would you buy another Champion ?

I've had nothing but great response from Champion, myself. I'm really surprised at yours, retdpd! I haven't had any trouble w/ my kit at all, but before purchasing it initially, and even since then I have called them several times with questions and always got prompt and thorough response. Based on that and my very positive experience with the quality of my kit, I would absolutely use theirs again on another trike!

I've also had poor customer relations with builders of my trike in South Wales in the UK. My Road King Classic was triked 2-1/2 years ago at the cost of £12,500, I've had a catalogue of faults starting with the diff seizing on my way home picking the finished trike up. Scraping the bottoms out of 2 sets of mufflers as the rear is to low.Front brakes failing, tow bar brackets breaking off, and the gear ratios were all wrong with a top speed of only 65miles per hour then reving it's nuts off, and finally the bearings in the diff seizing.
It as been at another trike builders since April having all these faults put right at a cost of which I'm dreading to hear. The original builder just fobs off with excuses, He has now finally asked me to take the trike back to him to have a new diff fitted and he knows that it is at the other side of the country in bits.

Ps. It has only done 3,000 miles since it was triked. in oct 2007.

John.

Trikerman: I have had about the same thing happen with my trike. Things that were wrong are too many to list. One I have not figured out is I have the Aqua Boards on my trike. They have factory lights on them. Most of the time these lights only come on when I turn the radio on. A while back I noticed that my differential was low on lube. When I went to put some in, it took more than a quart. That's when I was told by another rider that rear ends are shipped dry. Just a light coating on them. I was lucky no damage.

I must compliment the customer service dept of Champion. They were very empathetic and yes, I do understand I was out of warranty and they are just the messengers.

But they had absolutely no concern or interest or any suggestions why it failed.

They never requested or asked to have the old part shipped and or looked at. Presumably they gave me a $100.00 discount.

They did offer free 5 day shipping which is no good when your broke down 200 miles away from home.

So I paid for the 2-3day air.

I have found on other threads with the same problem. There posted price was a $100.00 less then I paid. HMMMMM

Per the customer service the discount and price was set by the owner and he would not budge on anything. I tried to contact him and he was not available and they did not offer to take a message.

I do not know what other manufacturers customer service depts are like but right now Champion would be on the very bottum of my list for consideration.

I contacted them once when it was first triked about an emblem that fell off and it took a month before I rec'd it.

I DON'T THINK THEY REALLY CARE ITS ALL ABOUT PROFIT BEFORE CUSTOMER

 I am very disheartened by the trike industrie's apparent lack of caring once you lay down your money. If I buy a classic BMW or Jag, the dealerships are only too happy to help. They WANT you to come to them. Trike companies seem detatched completely from the customer and thier needs. If I am ever lucky enough to afford an 1800, I will trike it myself. At least I know what's been done to it! My left brake drum parts were rolling around inside the drum when I got home from the dealer with my trike. They are 50+ miles away, so a quick trip to the service dept. is not possible. I called to get some help, and you'd think I had spit on the guy on the phone! So in the end, I did the reassembly myself, and found the springs had been installed incorrectly. No big deal, but I'd hate to think what would have happened if the brake guts had bound up the wheel at 70 MPH!!! :no:JMO jimsjinx
