I have noticed battery getting weak over last few weeks and I think it time to replace it , should I stick with Harley battery or go with other brand, any feed back would be appreciated. I use battery tender when bike is sitting I was hoping life of battery would be extended battery is 2012

I don't know if the Tri-Glide uses the same as the Electra-Glide does but probably it does. I went with a BigCrank ETX30L which is a re-labled Deka and Deka is or used to be what Harley uses. I suspect they still do but don't know it for fact.

What do you mean by getting weak?

Yep.... I replaced mine my old battery in Dec... EXT30L 99.95 Delivered to my door... Battery -Mart.. /Amazon....

Yes Deka still makes Harley batteries. The plant is 40 minutes away from me ... and it is huge! I purchase my batteries at the company store .... and they double the warranty when you do that!

There may be slight differences between the HD battery and other made for sale elsewhere ... such as post offset. The guts are all the same.

It's also the heaviest motorcycle battery I've ever seen. Which means lots of lead plates. That's a good thing.

Ok I took battery out and put on trickle charger till charger meter reading was 0
Itook charger of and put my volt meter on battery and it sread 13.63 and dropped to 13.55 pretty quickly.
I reinstalled battery after cleaning terminals, I then started bike with meter hooked to battery and meter dropped to8.55
then meter went to14.35 when bike started , I waited about 2 hours and battery meter reading was 12.31 I then started bike and meter dropped to 6.65 and when bike started meter reading went to14.33 , I think that drop to6.65 is to much.

12.31......... Battery is shot.. Bad cell, Get a new one, And when you do put that on a tender to fully charge it yourself 'even if the seller says its fully charged...A partly charged battery if not fully charged before the first use will never reach a full charge again and it will have a shorter life span....

Yes I make batteries for my civilian job. Personally I like the AGM and Gel Cell, but I will use the traditional battery if it is a good one, as long as it isn't made by excide, they make cheap crap (not me).

I can't tell you what brands to buy, most are the same company anyways. Just use your best judgment. I'll post this in the general area since this is the time of year most buy batteries for motorcycles.

BTW Deka are HD AGM batteries. Deka makes the batteries, and it is almost the same design as Johnson Controls if your talking about the current line of AGM batteries. It is a good design when you talk about AGM but it does cost more to produce them, especially since you have to compress the plates and seperator (a glass mat), and stuff them in the container. They expand in the individual cell, and the liquid used is fully absorbed, making them last longer and can take a larger load.

So it seems the HD battery is made by Deka, but any good name brand will work well. On my FLHS I have had an Odyssey AGM for the last 5 years and it spins the starter very briskly. Make sure you have a charger/maintainer that is rated for AGM and Gel batteries, apparently they need a higher voltage when charging than normal wet batteries.
