melting my boot heel on rear exhaust pipe

Hi, I'm new here and I'm having a problem with my big feet, I have a 2016 Tri Glide and I keep melting the heel of my right boot on the rear exhaust. Is there anything I can do to avoid this other than try and be more careful, are there any mods I can do ?

Welcome aboard Bob. Yes you can remove the cat out of the pipe that will cool it down some. See threads all ready posted. Second they make a floor board guide kit. There are several. They help keep your boot on the floor board by not letting it slide off and onto the pipe. No matter what the area of the pipe you are dealing with is only 10 to 12 inches from the exhaust exit from the rear head. Doesn't get much time to cool down a whole lot.

+1 on the floorboard extensions. I was regularly dealing with melted boot marks until I installed them. Now, not so much!

PS I also learned that Vibram soled boots are much more resistant to hot pipes than most others.

I've done the same as many folks here, floorboard extensions and the heel protector.

Be careful with removing the Cat, you have a brand new trike. IF something goes wrong with your brand new motor they can void your warranty and you will be out a couple of grand for a new one.

I have melted boot heals since 1970, long before Cats. Exhaust gas is around 1200*, cat or not. Also have a perma-rose about 6" above my ankle for 'kissing' the pipe with my leg.

You won't be sorry. I just had the extenders installed on my trike. They make for a more comfortable riding position also

Just installed the Heel Guard with the floor board extenders and much more comfortable riding and getting on and off.

Hey, stay with the stock Harley foot boards. Get their "heel guards" and spend an hour removing the right board, install the guard, re-install & no more marks.
