This past week. I rode to the Smokey Mountains and back. 1200+ miles.
I had installed a special junction I fabricated for my 1993 EGC trike. To allow me to incorporate a sensor for my newly
added HD Oil temperature gauge and the thermal switch that is supplied by Ultra Cool oil coolers.

At this time, the Ultra Cool Corporation only has kits for the newer twin cam engines only and Not for older model installs.
I had recently replaced my 1340 Evo Motor with a 113 Ultima engine. Since my engine is still in it's break-in period. I wanted to be sure the Ultra Cooler was cooling my engine in the right temperature range. This is why I added the Oil Temperature gauge and just incase I wanted to turn my cooling fan on ahead of time. I also installed an over-ride switch for the fan. So I had the option of turning on the fan before the thermal switch enabled it. I found that the thermal switch did in fact turn on the fan at 190 degrees.
Keep in mind,... I was putting my trike through a steady work-out on those twisty turns in the mountains. The temperatures in the mountains weren't as cool as I would believe a mountain elevation should be. I feel this ride in comparison to stop and go traffic was more intense and put more of a demand on the Ultra Cool. The engine temperatures were maintained between 200 and 220 throughout the entire time of my trip in the mountains. While riding home. The engine temps were variable when traveling at 65 to 70 MPH between 190 and 210 degrees. Throughout this trip. I had used conventional motor oil. 10/50.
When we rode out of the mountains and were slowed even more when we stood in traffic. It was very reassuring that the Ultra Cooler was doing the job it was designed to do.

In MHO,... all engines should have an oil cooler for their engines. But the bottom line is,... If it doesnt have an actuated fan pulling air through the cooler while sitting still. Then it should at least be chrome plated for looks. Because it isnt doing anything for the engine while your sitting still.
