GPS Wiring

I have a Garmin Zumo 550 and would like to wire it so the sound comes thru the headset. If so, how would you wire it. Right now I have it plugged in to the cig. lighter and needless to say you cannot hear the voice promps.

Bill the only thing that comes to mind is to tie into the plug on your trike where your lower cord plugs in. If your GPS has an audio out plug, I assume you could just 'tap" in. Here's a link for the plug wiring. This is for a Wing but I imagine the pins are the same. If you can figure which ones are for the intercom, your GPS would overide the stereo, CB ect. Good luck and let us know what you come up with. Ride safe...

If you have the standard Ultra radio, you only need to get a "patch cord" with 1/8" male plugs on both ends at any electronics place like Radio Shack, Fry's, etc. There's a plug on the left side of the Zumo mount under a rubber flap. Plug into that, run the cable across under the fairing cap, & plug into the aux input on the lower right corner of your HD radio. This allows you to select which band you're listening to with the mode select control on the right grip. When you want to listen to "Ms Zumo" select "Aux". This, unfortunately shuts off AM, FM, CD, & Weather, but you'll get "Ms Zumo" just fine. I tried to figure out a way to tie it in so it would pop in & over ride whatever I was listening to, but finaly gave up on that idea. If you want to use a MP3, it plugs in the same place -- Aux input. What I would like to see some make is a "dongle" that plugs into the HD system where the head set plugs into that'd allow us to use a bluetooth headset in the helmets & do away with that stupid cord.

If you are using the Garmin 550 handlebar mount, there's a standard 1/8" output port on the left side. I used a short patch cord (male one end, female on the other) plugged it into the GPS mount port, ran the cord down the handlebar, back along the frame under the gas tank to the space between the tank and the seat and tie-wrapped it to the frame. When I want to use audio on the GPs I just plug my headphones/headset into the female jack and have at it. Just try to remember to unplug when you get off the trike.
