    Default Location of Reverse Relay on 2006 GW Motor Trike

    My reverse works several feet then stops. If I turn off the reverse switch and turn it back on I'm good for several more feet. Or I can engage the switch and go off and on the activation switch being careful not to engage it to long and back up a long way. I would like to check the relay and looks like it is behind the right saddlebag on a two wheeler so I'm assuming the relay is under the seat. Any comments would be appreciated.

    The relay box is under the seat on an 1800.

    TrikeLady is correct Bill. That relay is the bottom right relay as you look at the relay panel under the seat. You can swap it for one of the unnecessary one of the same type then try out operation but I'll be surprised if that is the problem. Usually it they activate at all they are OK.

    Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to recall a member having that issue quite a while ago. Hopefully they are still around and will post what the final result was.

    That whole reverse control system is so mixed up it makes my head hurt every time I try to figure it out!

    After reviewing the link and with my GW being 10 years old I think replacing both relays is a good starting point. If they are difficult to get in and out perhaps I should pick up new ones before I pull the old one. Would anyone have part numbers and or sources to acquire them?

    All help is appreciated.

    This is a suggestion from a novice and in no certain terms a mechanic or electrical engineer. Check your speed control fuse and connection. I could be a blind squirrel who found a nut, but no guarantee.

    I read about the same problem you are experiencing some time past on a 2007 GW. The guy went through a ton of stuff before he found that the speed control fuse was missing. He had changed all the relays involved, did a load test on his battery, adjusted the cable, and everything else the mechanic had suggested. The reverse worked for about 6 feet and then he would have to shut it off and turn back on to go another 6 feet. It seems to be a simple check and could save a considerable amount of time and money. Good luck and I hope you find the problem sooner that later.

    Thank you for the link. I'll check the ground on the relays and plugs before and after I replace them. I haven't taken the seat off yet so I don't know what to expect. Always fun learning a new system.
