    Just got the Tri Glide back from having the first service done(on their nickel) had Belray put in the trans Lucas 20/50 full syn put in engine,engine runs quite now,trans shifts smoother with less clank.Had them listen to the awful neutral rattle and just as i figured ,yep its normal even showed me a bulletin from Harley.Its a lot less with Belray in it but still can hear it.My 12 Road Glide or any other bike never had it,just annoying that HD says their poor engineering is normal.

    Its not poor engineering..

    Its called an endearing combination of vibrations and sounds that keep the owner at full alert..The time to start worrying is when those endearing vibrations and sounds stop.....

    A quite Harley is a sad machine.....

    OP you never said where your neutral rattle was coming from. But I have a 14 that rattled in neutral from day one, & my dealer stated the same as yours. I found my shifter shaft has to much slop where it goes in thru the inner primary. I wrapped a piece of cheap aluminum foil around the shaft & now the rattle is gone. I say cheap because it is thinner then the more expensive stuff & on mine that thickness was to thick. Something to check. I hate rattles, even if it is a Harley! ha

    Bike has 2400 miles on it and the shifter levers are new its louder on the brake pedal side pull the clutch in an it goes away so i know its not the levers .

    I've heard from a lot of different forums say that this gear oil really works well to quiet things down. I'm going to try it at our trike's 5K service. http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=119&pcid=13

    My neutral rattle comes from two places... the shifter shaft ( I will have to try the tin foil trick ) and, believe it or not, the rear brakes! Evidently the anti-rattle springs don't do their job forever. It seems that they take on a permanent compression, and then quit working. I have already changed one rear set, and ready to do my second. Right now, if I am at idle, there is a terrible rattle, that I was able to find came from the rear brake pads, unless I was holding the brakes on; the I just have to put up with the shifter shaft rattle. Bike has 42000 miles on it, by the time I hit 50K it will sound like a tin lizzie!

    I rolled into my office the other day. Trike nice and noisy. Radio blearing. Singing Meatloaf song. Right as a bunch of other service guys were coming in. One starts blathering in my direction having some delusion I can hear him. Turns out his comments had to do with all the vibrating noise. Someone else explained to the clown that that was a normal HD sound.

    Clint I did Little digging and I chose Amsoil check out the website see what you think. fearless

    Clint, I have used this in all my Harley's for years and it is great stuff!! Easier to find neutral as well!!

    To get rid of the shiftier shaft rattle, replace the allen head bolt wit a 5/16" 24 thread, 1" long grade 8 hex head bolt. Use a flat washer under the bolt head, and grease both sides of the washer, and crank it down hard. This fix has been working for years. The allen bolt bites in the aluminum shift lever,and you will strip out the allen head trying to get it to tighten enough.
