    Default Rear rail connector breaks

    The right side of the rear rail connector broke and turned the right side of the rear axle loose. I was only going about 20 miles per hr. and it almost flipped. Don't know why it broke but it I was going any faster I would not be writing this. Has anyone else had this to happen.

    Are you referring to the ladder bar?

    yes I believe he is from the description of what happened when it let go. Thats also why I asked what year because that piece was modified by the factory.

    Thanks Gorilla, I couldn't see that any other component could cause this problem. I have the ladder bar upgrade.

    Johnny I see you have an 08 Stallion and I have one also. The ladder bars were a problem on the 08 Stallions and if you call them they (TMS) SHOULD replace them. They replaced mine but the dealer charged labor to replace them. I have seen a post where someone drilled a hole on the inside the riders compartment so they could remove the top front bolts without needing to remove some of the pannels. If that works and a cover can be found for the hole it wouldn't be so hard to replace the ladder bars(still a job).

    I too have a friend with an 08 that had his break while they were doing about 60mph. He had his wife with him and said it was a wild ride for awhile. I have tried talking to Richard about replacing mine. He said they would only if they broke. I said this is a known problem that has happened several times. I asked him if I needed to die in an accident to get them to replace them. He denied there was a problem. I'll bet if the NHTSB found out about these things breaking, they would make them replace them. There is a high percentage of them that have broken for the amount that were manufactured before they changed the design. Rick

    Johnny has an "08" then I would like to know the last 3 of his VIN. I believe the newer design happen sometime in the latter of the "08" build. Just trying to figure it out for myself. We have #406 which is a late "08" with 80k miles on it without issue with the latter bars.

    I assume there have been no reported breaks with the later style ladder bars. I have #142 with the helm joints. Scary knowing they could break at any time. I am almost afraid to ride it knowing the situation.

    </div>

    </div>Ted, they didn't make the change until into the '09 as mine is #526 and I had mine changed out while I was at the factory in April '10. They also sent Bigdog new ones for his '08 in the mail if I remember correctly. Back then they(TMS) were pretty much replacing them if requested. I know that they are giving people a hard time now, look at the post made by Herman Capt Hook. Richard told him to got to a parts store and by a new heim joint to repair his.<br />

    I have replace the ladders with the update for the 2008. It has a rubber bushing instead of a metal joint. I sawed the bolts off and replaced them in the other direction. It is a job to cut the bolts with a reciple saw but it can be done with a few blades. The new ladders look a lot stronger.

    Ted, mine (09) is 526 and I had the old style. Had them changed out while I was at TMS in '10. Sure made the ride smoother also.

    I hate to say this, but it's going to take one of us to get hurt or killed before TBMS will do something to correct the problem. When I called them about it, Richard denied ever hearing about a problem with the ladder bars. When I told him he just replaced a friend of mines that broke, he then said he would replace mine if it broke. I said it would be too late if I was going around a curve and it broke and I lost control and got hurt or killed. He didn't have anything to say. There has been a high percentage of these breaking for the amount of them out there. I'll bet if the government new about this problem, they would make TBMS replace all the old style bars with the new style ones. Rick
