Last two weekend rides

I have put on around 1200 miles the last two weekends. It was the same trip both times, with a small variation. First weekend, the mother of my best friend from childhood had died, so I headed up that direction for the funeral. It was only a couple hours from my Mom's house and (by google maps' calculation) 5 1/2 from home. So I left on Friday to go to Mom's and we would go to the funeral together (the deceased was a good friend of Mom's.) As it turns out, I didn't remember the route to Mom's as well as I thought I did, and it ended up an 8 hour ride to her house on Friday. No problem, the weather was good, the roads were good, and I enjoyed the extra time. By the time I got there, I was ready to get off for a while, so I know I have to get my butt in shape for some touring. Trip home was the projected 5 1/2 hours, and it was hot! Ended up pouring about half of my water on me trying to stay cool.

Second weekend, the wife rode with me. Remembered the route to Mom's the first time, so cut a couple hours out of the time to target. Still took more than 5 1/2, as you would expect when riding 2-up. No dig on the wife, but 2 can never get back on the road a quickly as 1. A pretty strong storm blew through while we were on the way there. Started with the wind, and we could see the clouds building. We decided to pull off the road and put on the gear. Not 2 minutes after we started back up, it was raining sideways. Fortunately it only lasted about 15 minutes, and we only had another 30 minutes after it quit before we got there. Sure am glad we were on 3 wheels in that instead of 2!

We went to an Amish store out in the middle of nowhere while we were there, and a portion of the way to the store seemed like it would be a good way to ride back home. Wouldn't be out of the way, and lots of fun, hilly, twisty roads to traverse as we cut the corner to the main roads home. So we took those roads and had a great time. I heard several "WOO HOO"'s from the back seat as we wound our way through Casey County, Kentucky. One very brief shower on the way home. Took our time making our way home, and arrived just in time to get unloaded and see the sky open up with wet stuff.

All in all, it was my highest mileage for a single day on the way up the first time. Highest mileage for a single weekend. And highest mileage for a 10 day period. And a lesson - I need to do some work on the seat comfort, and even more work on the ergonomics. I need to put a driver's backrest on it, and some risers to pull the bars up and back. And I enjoyed the lesson.:yes:

Even those "learning" rides are wonderful!!!! Sounds like a couple of great weekends, hitime!

CONGRATS hitime on the learning curve and enjoying Your Trike (except the seat issue, and I hope it gets better for You)...I just noticed that You live in Huntsville, Alabama....We only live 50 miles north of You in Estill Springs, Tn (Winchester/Tullahoma/Lynchburg Area).....we'll hafta' get together and ride sometime.....
