If we are talking about tongue weight on the hitch from the trailer ... I've always shot for 16# plus or minus 1#. I have a zebeco fish scale and rearrange trailer weight front or back till I reach that. I've found less than 16# and the trailer gets squirley, more than 16 and the bike can get squirley. I attended an AMA trailering seminar many years ago at a Gold Wing rally ... but the numbers work equally well on a Harley or BMW.
Why is this in with the game room threads????

On the trike ..... when I tow a trailer I just make sure there's 20-25 lbs at least on the tongue. I never have weighed it, as long as tongue heavy. Too light and yes .... the trailer will sway. I've never had it heavy enough on the trike to cause any adverse affects.
I do have a stout receiver for a 1.25 x 1.25 drawbar on our GL1500 / Lehman GTL .... not the stock flatbar springy hitch.
On my MotorTrike, I've had hitch weights as much as 40# with no problem. In fact, I think it rode better than this last trip @ 22#.
It never wiggled at either weight.
