Default Champion Voyager MPG and Power?

Who's getting what in the way of MPG, and how do you rate your power after converting? I'm down in the 20's in MPG when on the highway at 70 and 75, plus the power seems to really be down. Wish I'd paid more attention to the MPG when I first started riding three wheels, but I didn't. Seems like the 20's have come on in the past month, or so.

I'm getting around 30.0 to 30.7 per gallon now at 65 to 70 mph. I have an open air filter, re-programed ECM (done by Ivan in NY) and modified exhaust. Earlier this year I was coming home from a group ride and used 5.6 gallons for 106.5 miles. That was on the Interstate but at times I was down to 15-20 mph (rain and fog, at night). Took my ride to the dealer and they found one of the injectors stuck open. Replaced them both under warranty.

I have the CSC Kruz on my stock Voyager and had Ivan work his magic on the ECU. The 3800 mi. trip to Deadwood, SD resulted in 30 on the interstates and 35-36 running the byways. Ivan took care of the performance problem but nothing will help the drag created by the big windsock we're totin behind us.

    Hope for tail winds!

I have a CSC Kruze 1700 Nomad that is stock other than running a Dobeck EJK Gen 3, CSC's exhaust system and having the AIS "marbled" to block it off. I average 34 - 36 in an overall mileage combining highways, byways, stop and go town traffic and running the mountains around our area.

How does you ride do below 3k RPM? My motor sounds bad between about 2600- 3100 rpm in any gear above 2nd. I do about 70 in 5th gear at 3000 rpm. I have an open K&N air filter and modified stock exhaust. Air injection system is blocked.

Rmitch, No problem or noises 2600 - 3100 rpm in any gear. In fact, I frequently run in 5th gear at 2700 to 3000 rpm to save gas and maintain high end performance by not using 6th. I'm using either a stock Kawi or K&N filter with the stock intake. The only other mod if you can call it that is the CSC exhaust that is required with their kit.

    Greetings.

I need to get the ECM re-programed. Is there a link to Ivan in NY?

    I appreciate it.

    Default Regarding Ivan

    All,

After too long a period of time, I finally got around to sending the ECU to Ivan. He worked his magic and I could not be happier - at least with the results. I cannot really describe the difference but the '12 Voyager Motor Trike runs so much better and the wife believes it rides much better. It got rid of the "popping" on deceleration as well as that abrupt forward jerk when I roll off throttle. A whole lot smoother.

Performance-wise it is a lot better as well. Again, it is difficult to describe but the overall experience is more enjoyable. I have always liked the Voyager but it did have some "issues" and Ivan's work got rid of the performance matters. I have only ridden a couple of hundred miles so no real read on mileage but it seems to be better.

More miles will tell. I was averaging between 29 and 33 mpg or so and any little bit will help. About the only thing is in this part of the country, or at least on the back roads and the twisties, higher octane gas can be difficult to find.

Now, if I could find a relatively simple way to gain a couple of inches to move the trunk back . . .

There seems to be a wide variation between unmodified Voyagers when it comes to mileage. I was agast with the mileage when I added the 3rd wheel, 300# and big wind catcher to the back end. Since the reflash I get about 30 on the interstate (75 - 80+) and as much as 35 or so when off the "I", even when pushing the twisties with my 2 wheel friends. YMMV
Ivan is good and his work is wonderful but I doubt he'll find a way to move the tourpack via the ECU. As you put more miles on the ECU you'll like it even more!
My VV was the 1st VN1700 trike to benefit from Ivan's magic and I'm still silently thanking Ivan everytime I ride.

Default Voyager Mileage and box move

I was getting around 30 mpg until at 18k I put in a new K&N air filter. Then it went up to about 32 mpg. This is at 70 mph on the interstate in 6th gear. Then at 19k I was getting 38 mpg all of a sudden just before my differential let go and I lost all power to the rear wheels. I guess one axle was just coasting along while the other pulled so that helped with the mileage. But then the other axle disengaged in the differential and both wheels were just coasting. MPG was great while it lasted. Waiting for warranty replacement or repair of the differential. As far as the box move I posted a long description of how I did mine if you want to review my previous posts. It was easy and cheap. We love that part now.

Came back from a 4899 mile trip (Sacramento, CA to Hurley, WI by way of Idaho) and then completed a tour of the California Coast from Half Moon Bay to Orange county, then across to the desert and then back home via rte 395 and Yosemite, for a total of 6440 miles, freeway, hiways, city streets and averaged 31.9252 MPG riding 2 up on our 2009 Voyager 1700 with Champion trike kit on it. Also, re-flashed by Ivan just before we left to Hurley. Can't complain, but I do carry a 1 gallon spare gas can on the rear package shelf just in case.... No problems what so ever on the trike, just a really good ride!
