HEARTBROKEN - Replacement Motor Trike Spyder Fiberglass Rear Ends/Aqua?

HEARTBROKEN - Replacement Motor Trike Spyder Fiberglass Rear Ends/Aqua?

Short Version: My drive way is NOT flat like I thought and bike was NOT in gear like I thought.

Good: My trike didn't roll thru the neighbor's house. Just dented the gutter and scratched the siding a little.

Medium: Starter stopped working again. This is what I was working on. Bike was running, ran to garage to get seat to put back on so I could drive around cul-du-sac to park bike in garage. Probably need Starter relay A and/or B behind the battery.

Visibly Bad: Trike fiber glass fender cracked and bowed bad. Corner of aqua-shield near fender cracked off. Left mirror cracked and internal housing may be cracked since the mirror wobbles/shakes now. Left mirror LED light strip wires cracked - minor but annoying. Left Highway peg cracked. Fender bra snaps ripped out of the material.

Unknown frame or front fork damage - The front wheel and fender well stopped the trike as it hit the house.

Unknown frame damage - who knows if it hit hard enough.

Semi-good news: I added $14000 accessory coverage to the bike as I added it to my Progressive account.

Does anyone know if replacement fiberglass parts can be ordered from Motor Trike (thur dealer).

Approximate Cost?

Does anyone know if NEWER fiberglass kits can be installed on to the frame work of an older-discontinued model?

Does anyone have a time machine I can borrow?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, I hope it is easily repaired.

Thanks.

Easily - Probably not. I know fiberglass can be repaired but I have a chunk missing from the aquashield.

I suppose fiberglass damage is minor if I messed up the front forks or frame...

Beside the damage I really sucks because I've ridden less than 100 miles and was working on other issues.

I was told the Adventure & Razor kits used the same mounts, but they're both IRS. I'd check with MT cause I bet there's not much difference in mounting the SA kits also.

A good body shop can repair that fender, but you'd need another aqua-shield. Might ask around, check Craigs list, etc. Some folks are like me... I didn't like them and removed them. They look pretty & go down the interstate good, but the county dirt/gravel rutted roads to kinfolk's farms would always drag thru there. No problem now.

Good luck with the repair.

I'm going to work with Progressive Insurance and see what happens. We have a Honda/Motor Trike dealer in town that could probably replace any Motor Trike parts. However, I doubt the want to/can handle the fiberglass repair job.

If the 2 modern/current kits "fit" the mounts, I would think solid vs IRS wouldn't matter to much unless they shocks hit the newer kit.

P.S. I'd love a newer kit with the larger trunk opening if that's a possibility.

Even better would be a check to cover the $14,000 accessories/trike PLUS the value of the bike (if totaled) then I could just start over... One can only dream...

Bummer! Sorry to see/hear of your misfortune Bob.
Sounds like you're going to find out shortly, how well Progressive covers trikes, or not.
I'd bet if there is any frame damage, they'll call it a "total" loss.
Good luck on this unfortunate claim...

I'm still stuck in limbo waiting for local Honda/MT shop to examine my bike for hidden damage and get back with the insurance adjuster.

No idea of going to get fully fixed (plus my deductible) or totaled for an unknown amount.

Yikes! :AGGHH: came across your story and wanted to say I feel for you. As a new trike owner this is something I dread (runaway trike). My experience with the loss if my 2 wheeler and the insurance company of the responsible party was not a good one for me. Took almost month and a half for have them to just total my baby. Best of luck on your repair ir replacement...:gah:

We shall see.

My wife's car was just insurance totalled and they decided on the spot as adding up the hidden frame damage. The check took less than a month to arrive.

Different company and value, so who knows what will happen.

Pretty sure a replacement Will be a roadsmith with hand brake given the chance.

Edit
Wife was unseen hit and run. My Trike rolled down driveway. So no 2nd insurance to deal with.

Great choice on the Roadsmith conversation, and yep and a hand break would be a great addition. P.s. loved the comment on the time machine...been looking for one of those for awhile now:laugh:
Keep us posted 👍

Yes they are. Razor body was $4,000 including trunk lid. And yes through your dealer. I had mine repaired after it got hit on my summer trip out west. Okay now and $8,700 later....

Trike repair

I was in an accident this summer had Progressive insurance. They treated me very well. Live in Pa. had the accident in South Carolina. They totaled our gold Wing, I feel the frame and forks were not hurt. If frame is damaged they will total.
Good Luck hope they work with you as well as they did me.

Very sorry about your accident. I felt it in my bones when I read about it. When you get a chance and you’re all fixed up, let us all know how Progressive insurance treated you. Not sure I know which company to trust. We need a rating for each of the companies.

This happened in 2016 and he has not been back that I know of.
