i see people are buying can am spyders istead of triking there goldwings. i was wondering if its because you trike your wing honda will not warranty the bike. and the spyder has a factory warranty. or do they like it better.

My sister started on a GL1800 with a MotorTrike kit on it last year. She is just under 5' tall. She struggled in Parking lots and tight cornering. She is now on a Spyder and with in minutes of riding one became noticeably more comfortable and confident riding it. In her case it was a matter of finding a trike that fit her. Personally I do not believe that the Spyder is "better" per se, just a better fit for some. The same is true the other way.
As for the Warranty, Yes, some look at that as a reason to purchase a Spyder of Harley factory built trike over a conversion.

I had a VTX 1800.. And instead of trikeing it 'Because i wanted a Factory Trike With warranty i Traded it in for a Spyder, In 2008... I found out that a warranty doesn't mean much if the factory doesn't back it up in a timely fashion with parts availably and trusting their dealers... Thats why i have a Tri-Glide now...

I bought my GL1800 CSC trike from a Honda dealer brand new and they built it. Mine was warrantied by Honda and the dealer from day one. Had to go to Arkansas to pick it up but other than the distance I haven't had any warranty problems. I have to say it's a Honda and I didn't expect any issues with the trike. I have now 25000 miles on it and other than gas and Oil changes nothing has broken. Didn't like all the electrical problems with the Spyders. Have fun.
I know an trike installer that has told me he has many people contract him every week wanting to trade their Cam Am Spyder for a Goldwing trike.
I purchased a RT touring "Big Mistake" left me stranded in first 200 miles, it had several electrical issues. Dealer gave me a new identical replacement. The thing went into limp mode and shut my speed to 30 miles per hour, I could have gotten ran over. Service departments were bad, maintenence terribly expensive. Gravitational pull in turns was horrible. Cramped passenger seating area and the list goes on. I had ridden Harleys and Goldwings for years but thought conventional trikes didnt handle well. I was ignorant and uneducated on Trikes. After research I purchased a Goldwing CSC Viper and it has been "Great" !
This was 4 years ago so hopefully they have improved but when I see one on the road I still Get an upset stomach.
I have seen a few wings well over 300,000 miles with not engine work. One with 341,000 and the owner only replace an alternator other than oil changes, tires and batteries.
As far as warranty my dealer builds and sells CSC Trikes. I have never know of anyone having an issue with warranty. CSC now has a 5 year warranty on their kits. Just need to insure you find a really good installer. Poor installers were a dime a dozen a few years ago. I purchased a 7 year warranty on the bike when I bought it but normally on a Goldwing you never need it.

I look at this from another angle which I'm not sure of how many people have this issue. In Ct where I live, each town collects a separate tax on motor vehicles and the amount you pay is set by the town. The town that I live in is smaller with less liabilities so the tax rate is lower, in Hartford for example, they have a lot to pay for so the tax rate is much higher for the same vehicle.
My trike is registered as a 97 Goldwing, with no mention of it being a trike, so the annual tax is based on the value of the bike alone. If I were to buy a new Triglide or Can-am, the tax would be based on the total value of the trike and be much higher. This tax is collected every year and the value they use does not go down very quickly, and the numbers I think come out of the air.
So in my case and anyone that lives in Ct or other states where annual car taxes are collected, it's more of an advantage to go with a kit instead.
Just a few more years to retire and we are gone, like everyone else leaving this messed up state.
