I have been in contact with Cheri so that's in the works....

Talking at lunch with wife, I was thinking a nice day trip could be to OCC (Orange County Choppers) in the am, then the motorcycle museum in the afternoon and then to CIA, Cullinary Institue of America for an early dinner. They have several restaurants open to the public. I have never been there but heard it was good.

We can do the same thing for a ride north to Howes Caverns. I think a destination ride might work out better than just riding a loop. If the group is large, it will be easier to break up into smaller groups as long as we know where we are meeting up. If we get a number of people show up early on Thursday, we can do shorter rides in the area.

Are you available tonight to meet up later.

Going to dinner with a friend at 6:00. Could be available after 9:00. That's late. I am ok with Friday. Was planning n the fair in Harwington (sp check don't u love it ). but not important

Yes too late, Friday we are heading out of town right after work. We can catch up next week, isn't the fair next weekend? I thought I saw an ad today showing the 30th, 1st and 2nd.

Then I am free Fri. I have a wedding Sat. I have the Big E Sun and Dinner invitation ( can't pass up a free meal ) on Mon. tues is Elks oldtimer night thurs the 30 is open.

OK, we can shoot for the 30th.....

In regards to the note you got and traffic, I can tell everyone from experience that the Catskills are not as crowded as they once were. I go there every weekend during the summer and have not run into any traffic that is not any worse than what we have in our own small town. Probably the most traffic I have seen is in Catskill on Rt 9W where the Super Walmart is and up on Rt 23a by the falls and even that is no worse than anyplace in VT.

In fact it gets busier after Labor Day because people want to drive out to farms and do leaf peeping. From talking to several inn owners they all tell me that the weekend before Labor Day is pretty quiet as far as reservations.

So for anyone who might be concerned about traffic and being too busy, that is the least of our problems.

I hope that this doesn't deter anyone from going but if you have any questions, send me a quick message.

I figured if anyone knew the traffic in that area you would. Been there this Time last year. For a wedding and did not see a lot of it either.. Hope we get a good rally going again.

I'm thinking we are a little early but this gives us a chance to set some of it up without being at the last minute. I would say by late winter the push has to be on, the hotel will hold the entire place for us until July, I don't have a cut off date yet, after whatever that date is, they can book the unsold rooms to other groups or individuals. who ever wants to go will need to book before that date, if someone needs to cancel, they would have to do so as long as it follows the inns guidelines. I look at it as better to have a room and not be able to get one at the last minute.

NY Gathering

Being from Newburgh, and a pilot as well as a triker, I can vouch for the attraction of the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. They put on an airshow most weekends up through late fall, and it is fun to watch their comedy acts and the "flying farmer" act. Although due to the length of the show, it is an all day undertaking. Ted Doering's Motorcycle Museum in Newburgh is a great place to visit, lots of great condition bikes of all shapes and sizes, with a number of trikes also. Orange County Chopper in Newburgh is a nice place to visit and view Paul Sr.'s show bikes of the past. You used to be able to watch them building show bikes, but that aspect of their business is down and out thanks to no TV shows. Paul Jr. has his custom bike shop a couple of miles away, but it is hard to get to see him, a plan ahead visit might work. Paul Jr. is a very friendly and enjoyable guy, and nothing like the old grouch, Paul Sr. The mountain lodge at Lake Minnewaska in the mountains west of New Paltz presents a fun mountain ride and great food, although it is NOT a cheap place to eat.I am starting to talk Sara and I into visiting our family in Newburgh...Best regards, Chaplain Dave (CD)

Dave, I thought you were from Newburgh but then saw you are from Mt Carmel, if I not mistaken that is on the other side of Danbury, Ct. I have never been to the Aerodome before, I know they have an antique bike meet there too and I haven't been to the museum either. I've been coming up to the Catskills for over 15 years now every summer weekend and we usually venture out when it gets cooler.

John, the 30th is Friday, not Thursday. I am leaving to head out right after work on Friday but Thursday is doable for me. I think I got the link figured out to add it to the posting. I was watching some You Tube videos last night on how to do that.

Newburgh or Mount Carmel?

Sara and I live in Mount Carmel near Kingsport in TN. We were both raised in NY (me-Cornwall & Newburgh, Sara -Ossining) and we lived in Florida for 27 some years near Melbourne, FL (I was going to FIT) and Jupiter, FL (where I had a locksmith company and a car leasing company) and did some 7200 hours of various types of Pastoral Counseling including working as a drug & alcohol counselor. We got tired of Florida's hurricanes and tornadoes and the high cost of living, and while on an RV trip out west, happened to visit Kingsport and feel in love with the area, went back to Florida and sold our home and moved to TN. By living in TN we have 4 season living, a very mild winter and don't have to undergo a sweltering hot summer!Having spent half my life in NY, I am very familiar with the people of the Newburgh area and half of our family lives there.Have you ever heard of Leo Loudenslager? He was a perfectionistic aerobatic and airline pilot who built his own aircraft at a local airport where I had one of my airplanes. Leo was killed riding his motorcycle in a head on collision in Indiana.Heard of Bob Hoover? I met him a few times at Oshkosh and enjoyed his happy outlook on life!I enjoy the 3d freedom of flying an airplane and the 2d freedom of riding a bike or a trike. I had several open cockpit airplanes and enjoyed them because that way I could have the wind in my face, and I felt like I had an aerial bike with an extra dimension of freedom!Best regards,Dave (CD)

OK, I wasn't even thinking you were in another state, well being from Tn and having family in NY would be a good excuse to come to the rally and see family also. Where we are staying is about an hour to Rhinebeck and maybe an hour and a half to Newburgh area. Hope to meet you next year, would like to get your perspective on TN, wife and I have been to Nashville a few years ago.

Hey bro! Sara and I got tired of freezing in NY, moved to Florida for an PsyD degree at FIT and decided to stay. Lived in the west Palm Beach/Jupiter area for 28 years and got fed up with a year long summer and sweltering summer heat where it was too hot to ride a bike or work in my garage, And we got tired of being clobbered with hurricanes, high home owners insurance @ $6500 a year with a horrendously high deductible, high taxes and high food costs, and too much crime thanks to the illegals. We determined that we would like to make a move to an area that had reasonable 4 season weather, lots of inviting roads for bike rides, no hurricanes, low taxes, and an area where people were friendly and honest. I closely examined several areas for a possible move and far eastern Tennessee with it's pie shaped end and protection north and south by high mountains turned out to be the place of our choice; we have lived here for 8 years and not regretted it one bit! The area reminds us of what our hometowns in NY used to be like (not so anymore with the invasion of New Yorkers), and the mountains are much like the ones I enjoyed living near and flying over in NY.Our neighbor calls us "half-backs!" That is, we are half back to NY and half back to Florida, and convenient located to both but not living in either area!Next year we will try to get to the "Yankee Gathering!"Best regards to you and yours!Dave (aka CD)

CD, it would be nice to see you at the NE rally... I'm going to try to make it there as well as MV next year.

I still can't believe you think I'm a "character"... LOL:laugh::laugh:

Hey! Anyone that is dbltrbl has to be a "character!"

That must have been a Freudian slip of the tongue that vanished once said! Although I have to admit, your active prior life certainly was filled with a lot activity, and conversations with you just go on and on! For some reason my trike started to pull to the right when we left for Maggie Valley, and I hope to fix that and fabricate a set of side curtains for long distance traveling (I've been going to do that for 5 years now, and I am running out of excuses!) Up to this point I have not taken really LONG trike rides, but everything on the trike that has any wear associated with it has been replaced, so there also I am running out of excuses! I loved the mountains and the country roads of rural NY state and still do, and when I look out the window at the Smokies, I feel right at home! ... looking forward to seeing you next year at the "Yankee Gathering" in the northland and the "Redneck Gathering" in Maggie Valley! Have a GREAT winter, be blessed and be safe!Dave (aka CD) & Sara

Well the 30 came and went

This past week was a blur. A lot of late night closing at Lowes. I am free almost all week after 4. And Sat and Sunday. Looks like we are hearing from people interested in the 9th NETT. Rally .. Never too early. The Torrington Rally was 8 months of planning. If you don't get your Ducks in a row early next thing you know I is Aug.:kpzxvq:

Well looks like we have too many thing planned now.

Howe Caverns, Rhinebeck ( don't think every weekend ) I think ,but not certain, the Flying Farmer was killed in a flying accident years back.

, OCC.

( I was not impressed ) Woodstock quiet a Haul.

But that's what the rally is about Riding and chatting & Activities. I think people want to be steered and led .

They say the guy that did our shirts for me for the 4th and5th is still in business. I will check. He may still have the Logo. Save us $50

Good morning....

I received an e-mail fro Cheri indicating that some members may have had problems getting to the registration page for the 2017 rally. Please use the following link,, if you need to, copy and paste into your browser.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

This link brings you to the excel page with the list of who is going. On the bottom of the page there are two tabs, there are entries on both tab pages. If you have not registered yet, go to the "form" tab at the top and select "go to live form". Here you will be able to register and save your entry. I'm not sure if you can go back to the excel sheet directly, if not back out and go back through the link again.

Sorry for the inconvenience, this has been my first time using Goggle Drive and trying to make a shareable link. If all else fails, send me an e-mail through Trike Talk or you can use my regular e-mail at dveronneau@sbcglobal.net This link does work, I double checked it this morning again and several people have signed up.

Cheri also mentioned that the hotel was not taking reservations until May 15th. I called and it looks they are doing the renovations they talked about for handicap rooms. I thought they would have started earlier but being in ski country, winter is out of the question. The recording said to leave a message or register on line. They should be back on line the day after Mothers Day.

Please make an effort to register if you are planning on going....we do have a date that the hotel will start to take reservations from other people or groups. I thought it was July 1st but not sure, I asked them to get back to me.

Thanks and looking forward to showing everyone some great riding in the Catskills this summer.....

Doug

I received a call back from the hotel and the last day to register will be June 30th, after that registration is open to the general public.

The next closet hotel that is nearby is about a mile from the host hotel but I believe the rates are much higher. There are others within town also if there are any last minute stragglers.

Doug
