2017 Trike Talk Northeast Registration

The Trike Talk Northeast Rally for 2017 will be held in Windham, NY, starting on Thursday Aug 24th through Sunday Aug 27. Windham is central to the Catskill region and is easily reached by major highways or secondary roads in the area.

Our host hotel is The Hotel Vienna located at 107 State Route 296 just off of Rt 23. Please call the hotel directly at

518-734-5300 and tell them you are with the trike group. Prices for rooms are higher in this area and the rooms are running $126.00 for a standard room on the first floor and $141.00 for a deluxe room which includes a Jacuzzi tub and a outside balcony with mountain views. The hotel has a separate building with a pool and hot tub and an area to hang out after. The entire hotel is being blocked out for us until July so get your rooms early, if we sell out the place, the owner will make alternate arrangements in a nearby hotel. If anyone wants to stay longer, make sure you tell the owner this so your room is saved.

A continental breakfast will be provided starting as early as 7:00am for early risers so we don't have to wait around while someone cooks breakfast. For those that want a full breakfast, there are several options nearby.

Please pm me and let me know when you have registered at the hotel.

For those who want to camp, there are options in the area, one is Whip a Will campground which is not far from the hotel.

The Catskills has a lot to offer including:

Bethel Woods Museum, site of the original Woodstock Music Festival

Baseball Hall of Fame

Howe Caverns

Thomas Cole and Frederic Church home sites, famous painters of the Catskills.

Motorcyclepedia motorcycle museum

Orange County Choppers

Farm Markets and more

and the best roads to ride on.

Both Rider magazine and Road Runner have done feature articles on the riding in the Catskills. We are also just a few hours from Lake George as well.

We will have more to come as we get more into the planning. The hotel does not have a restaurant on site but there are a lot of good places to eat in the Catskills. Another attraction is the CIA, Culinary Institute of America and many of the grads have started restaurants in this area and from experience there are a lot good places.

Also a 50-50 (or 80-30-20) drawing might be fun. Don't win drawing - save tickets for door prize...

Since yesterday was rainy, wife and I did some poking around in the Catskills to check out possible routes. We found some roads that were in absolutely great condition, some of them had new asphalt. The better ones seem to be the state roads like Rt 28, Rt 23A and Rt 23 and had very nice views. The roads that go up over the mountains like Rt 42 and Rt 214 were not real bad but a little bumpy in spots. You don't always get the wide open views because of the tree cover but in places it wasn't bad. Hopefully by next year a lot of these marginal roads will be done too. It seems like the state of New York has a lot of money to spend on road resurfacing.

Altogether we did about 150 miles yesterday just in the Catskills and dropped into Woodstock but not for long, it was a zoo there yesterday with all the people.

If anyone has any suggestions of a ride to a particular place let me know. I was thinking of the original Woodstock site in Bethel Woods which has a nice museum and run special displays.

Woodstock is a typical tourist trap on weekends , with a pay parking lot. Weekdays it's not too bad.
Rt 209 will bring you to Stone Ridge. Nice ride but not mutch as for antiquing ect. is at a minimum unless you go to High Falls for the small local flea mkt on weekends. Parking is also at a minimum, due to street parking. Continue on 209 and take the mountain thru New Paltz to rt 32.
All and all , when I ride up that way I just ride and enjoy the scenery. Not mutch of a stop and shop kinda guy, other than for a slice of pizza, or pee brake.

Expensive tourist trap for sure....the parking lot on the north side says $5.00 for all day but have never seen anyone collecting money. We actually parked across the street, huge parking lot and no cost. Almost everyone was parking on the street near the stores and this lot was almost empty. It's one of those places you see once......

I have been down Rt 32 but not 209, will have to check that out. If you don't stop, you can eat up the miles pretty quick. I know in Kingston they have river cruises too that are nice to take. There are also railroad museums with old steam engines that do rides, not sure if everyone wants a destination ride where we go someplace specific or just ride around the various towns. Within a days ride there are several places to stop for a few hours or more.

If your not from that area it is different. I find places in my neck of the woods boring and others visiting seemed to love them. I am sure that people that live in Maine or the Cape find it boring too. Heck Hawaii is even boring to a native Hawaiian?. < LOL >

The fun part for a native is to take a unknown back road to see were it takes you to. Usualy ends up at someplace familiar . But not always !

Bethel/White Lake Rt 17b.. With Museum and a 15000 capacity arts center.. With top name artists.. Don Henley of the Eagles was performing there a short while ago just to name one.. But after that there isn't too much around there... I have a hunting club about 10 miles from there...

From Windham, its a good days ride back and forth and spending time in the museum, want to keep it interesting for everyone. Hunter Mountain has a lot of things going on too.

How far is Howe Caverns ? I have not been there in years. Not interested in Coopers town. Or Corning glass.

Is doable. 45 miles one way. If you leave around 9 you gat there by noon . Do the tour in 2 hours or less ( if not crowded. ) Get on the way back by 5:00 and stop for supper . That would be all day. If we have a large group this year some may want to do it. I would be willing to lead.

Looked on Google Maps and the directions showed less than an hour to get there, right up Rt 145. I haven't been there in years, keep asking the wife to go but she doesn't like spaces like that. Looks like they have more things to do there since I was there last.
