Default Looking for suggestions for a trike cover

    Good morning, all.

My local dealer has the OEM cover in stock and I can get it for about $150. I'm looking for suggestions on non-OEM covers, as I have heard some not-so-stellar reports on the HD brand. I'd like to hear thoughts from you folks about what cover you use, and if it works well for you.

    Thanks so much.

I know you are looking for other suggestion but I use the harley cover and have no problem with it. Not sure why it is a problem for others. I like the vents on it and the snap strap that goes under the bike plus the draw cords on the front and back. Mine stores in a small soft luggage pack that I carry on the top of the tour pack when traveling otherwise its in the trunk. The trick is how you fold it up. To fold mine, I start with mine on the bike, then I take the front of the cover and lay it on the windshield, basically folding it halfway between the seat and the tire. Then I fold it on over to the seat. Starting in the back, i basically do the same thing with the rear of the cover ending on top of the front half laying on the seat. Then fold one side of the cover up on the seat, then the other side up. From there you can keep folding to fit where you will keep it and throw a bungee around it.

The trick is remember how it was positioned on the seat, then you just reverse to put it on.

    Maybe this will help......

Have been looking at covers myself, have looked at cover up, nelson riggs and few others, the pics show the cover on the bike but I see no antenna showing thru it, what's up with this. My other 2 bikes have nelson rigg covers and I really like them, a little oversized for my 2 bikes, it is basically a dust cover and that is what I'm looking for is a dust cover just for the garage, don't want a waterproof one. I found my cover that I used for a truck many years ago, guess I will use that for now, but it will be overkill for sure, it was a chevy step side, 1978 and it lack maybe 12 inches of going to ground all the way around but it kept it pretty clean.

At last resort I guess I could buy a couple of king size flat sheets and use them, I just want a dust cover to help keep the dust off, my other 2 bikes when I take the nelson rigg's off of them in the spring, they are a little dusky but not bad.

Have looked at the harley ones online and if you can get it at $150 that would be a good buy IMHO, if I remember right they run almost $200.

I have my truck cover, but I think it will be pretty big, trying to figure out a car cover that would work good. Been looking online for some king size flat sheets, hard to find, you have to buy the whole set and I don't want the whole set, don't even a have king bed. Guess I still have time, it's not winter here yet, but getting close.

I don't use a full cover, travel I use a half cover, Dowco I think. Had to cut two slits for antenna but hasn't had any issues with that in many years of use.

dust cover, I don't use any but I would go with King flat sheets if I could, might check out GoodWill for used sheets? Dollar store?

When we buy new sheets, we use the old ones for the bikes, trike.

I have a Nelson-Rigg cover, but use a couple bed sheets since it's easier and quicker to use. I ride all winter so it's a PITA to cover/uncover the bike every weekend. I use the N-R when I'm out and want the most protection.

Fits like a glove. Way cheaper then H-D

I had the less expensive h-d cover for my 11 tri-glide, but found it would scratch the black paint taking it on & off every day. So I quit using it. I ride almost every summer day, so I no longer cover it. I do cover it with a couple sheets in the winter to help keep the dust off though.

While I was at Sturgis this year I picked up one of those TES fully enclosed covers for my trike for $200.00 shipped home to Texas.

    http://www.tesproducts.com/about-the-tes-cover/

Really like the functionality of it. Plans are when to keep it in the cover during the winter months, although we ride quite a bit during the winter when it's dry. I've got 2 of those dehydration gel packs, like to put in a gun safe, that I place inside the cover with the bike. I really like the quality of their products.

I have a Cover Max trike cover. It is a little large. It works good for storage if your not riding for a few weeks. It's to big to take on the road ,Imo. It has a place in the back for antanas to go through . If I Rember right I got it on amazon for under $100.

Not sure what problems folks have had with the HD cover, I use mine mostly during the winter months in FL, as the pollen will cover a bike over night. It takes a couple of minutes to put it on, but like was said earlier, the front and back drawstrings, slits for the antennas and the fact it's a custom fit make it for me..

    Thank you, Recycled.

I quite like the HD cover because it is designed for the trikes, and I'm a sucker for the orange and black scheme

You're not kidding about the prices, bronx. Wow! Thank you much!

I'd like a bit more protection at home, but I'm thinking one of those for the occasional road trip would be excellent.

Howdy, Trampas. Yep, the price isn't bad compared to online.

My dealer has it in stock for MSRP but knocking off 20% if I buy within 90 days. Not bad, and the cover looks good.

I wish I could do with just a dust cover, but, unfortunately, my girl has to sit under an open carport for now. Since her parking spot leaves her susceptible, I'd like to spend the coin and get something as weather resistant as possible.

I tell ya, Gary, if there's no ice on the roads, I intend on tooling this girl about as often as I am able (when my chores are done, of course ) I really like the rain resistant cover from Exigent, for price, if nothing else. Looks like it might also be fairly easy to transport on the occasional overnight.

I'm simply thrilled with how enjoyable it is to ride the trike, arnie, and hope to have it out every day the weather allows, even winter. No ice, let's ride!

When it gets ugly, though, I'd like something that will offer a degree of weather resistance, especially regarding rain/snow. That reminds me, I need to ask you folks about wax and chrome polish...too much to remember in my euphoria lol

The reason I won't buy H-D cover is because I don't want anyone (thieves) to know there's a Harley under the cover.

i believe any thief looking to steal a Harley know excatly what one looks like under a cover, wheels, exhaust give it away. I know riders that buy Goldwing covers hopeing to fool thieves, not going to. They know what they're looking for.
i used to worry at hotels, get up during the night and check on bike, not anymore. I lock the bike, use a dick lock, park under awing or light. Insurance will cover it...

I am going to get the Nelson Rigg dust cover, that is all I want for now, have 2 other nelson rigg covers for the other bikes and they work just fine for keeping dust off, hopefully the triglide one comes in tommorrow.

And for the people saying king size sheets, I thought of this also, but trying to find some single flat sheets in a good thread count is impossible, Walmart and Target have the singles but in a 200 or 300 thread count, that won't keep dust off the bike, even went to Goodwill, DAV thrift store, dollar stores and not a single sheet in there. I would have to buy a complete set of king size in a good thread count and would have to buy 2 sets, with prices like that just as well spend the money and get a cover already designed for it.

My N-R cover covers the whole trike - no wheels/exhaust shows and it's lockable. No one can tell if it's a Harley. If a thief is going to check under every cover looking for a Harley, he's a beginner. A real thief is not going to waste time looking under all covers.

That dick lock must really hurt. LOL

Motels I stay at usually let me park in front of the entrance.

On the road I have 2 disk locks, brake/throttle lock and sometimes a cover.

If it's a long trip, I won't carry a cover because it takes up too much space.

Lately I'm agreeing with you = it's insured - only problem is the inconvenience if on vacation.

And besides who's going to steal a trike??

I'm not worried as much as I would be if it was some 2 wheel Harley. One of the perks of riding a TG. Maybe some day when they become real popular. Which doesn't seem to be to much longer. They're almost everywhere now.

    All for now Trampas

I think people are referring to their used sheets.

I use 2 or 3 smaller sheets for the bike and 2 old comforters on my car.

The bike doesn't sit long under the sheets because I ride each weekend. Most of the time I don't even waste time throwing the sheets over the bike.

If I was going to store my bike for 2/3/4/5 months, I'd get that zippered one that Texan has. Bottom line, if I had to store my bike for any of those time periods, I wouldn't even have a bike. It's crazy to pay $20~$30K on a bike and then store it for 5 months every year. That's just me.

I use turtle wax chrome polish on all the chrome.
On the body parts I have used Zymol, turtle liquid wax, & Pro Honda cleaner & polish. I also use numerous detailers, only for the fact of trying to find one that doesn't irritate my eyes or mess with my nose. They all seem to be about the same in quality to me. I just need one that is best for my allergies & sinus.

To diverge off the topic a bit- Thanks Texan for posting that link about the TES cover and the idea of the dry packs. We are planning on a toyhauler when I retire in a few years, and will use the garage as a living space when "camped" for a few weeks or months. That cover will be just the thing when the trike and 2 wheeler are outside while the garage is lived in and the ramp is a patio.

Really like the functionality of it. Plans are when to keep it in the cover during the winter months, although we ride quite a bit during the winter when it's dry. I've got 2 of those dehydration gel packs, like to put in a gun safe, that I place inside the cover with the bike. I really like the quality of their products.

Texan, I can't thank you enough for the link! The TES looks to be exactly what I want and a bit more. Being able to prevent my wheels from attracting moisture while under cover is simply fantastic. As I have a sissy bar on my Freewheeler now, and contemplating the 16" HD apes, I contacted TES to question if those items would prevent the closure of the cover. I received a very nice reply to my e-mail in less than 30 minutes from Sales Manager Curtis Mottram advising me the cover would fit without issue.

I like the product and I already like the people.

I think I'll be ordering one of these next month.

Thank you, arnie! The guys at my local shop seemed to all agree that Turtle Wax products for the chrome and body so it looks like they are first on my list to be tried.
