Default Goldwing Trike or Harley Tri Glide?

I have a 2007 Goldwing that I was thinking of converting to a Trike. But not sure if it's worth it with over 10k invested in it. So I'm looking at selling it and buy a Trike that is already done. I saw a lot of Goldwings and Harley's for 20k or under. I'm going to test ride both to see what feels good to both of us. Which one would you recommend? I want to know what's good and bad on both. I'm leaning towards the Goldwing because of the reliability and power. What's your thoughts?

How many miles on your present Wing?
You know the bike you have and its quirks. You also never know how the former owner maintained their trike before trading it in. Some people are picky about maintenance and others might not be.
My opinion is go with a Wing.

32k Only had it for 2 years. So far I needed to repair it more that my Roadstar I had after 11 years.

Okay. Did the alternator drive go bad? Dreaded 'Ghost Shifting'?
The bike isn't even broken in yet, at about 60,000 it is considered broken in.
Tell me a little more history about the bike. I'm only trying to help. I used to work on Wings.

    Default Which one?

We have both! I am 6'3" and the TriGlide fits my legs better, but my legs can get very hot riding in traffic. Converted the 2012 Goldwing to a Hannigan GenII trike with the 180 front end. Even in traffic I don't feel the heat. Love both trikes, take the GOLDWING on long (2,000m) trips. Ride the Harley as often as I can! My wife loves the Harley! Both have advantages & disadvantages! You'll have to ride & decide for yourself.

I just went thru this process.... It was a hard decision. But in the end I went with the Goldwing with CSC Conversion. I am very happy with my decision. I weighed all the positive and negative on both. This was my decision. Every body will have their own reasons why they would pick one over the other.

You can pm if you like for more info on my thoughts

My first trike was my 2004 Wing that I had converted. Also had a 2007 Ultra at the time, but never even considered triking that bike because of lack of power and dependability issues. I now have a 12 Wing with a Hannigan kit on it. You won't regret either converting your Honda or buying one already converted. Very dependable and worry free

I just test road a 2015 Goldwing with a CSC Conversion, and a new 2016 Tri Glide. I liked them both, but to be honest I really liked the Triglide. From 14 to 17 they are the same. I found so many good deals on 2014 Tri Glides, and also many 07 and up Goldwings. I want to try the Champion with independent suspension for the Wing. I also found a 08 Goldwing with Champion straight axle, and all the options I want with only 17k on it. He said I'm welcome to try it. I'm still torn between Honda and Harley.

I triked by 2007 Goldwing about 8 months ago and used the Champion Kit. So far it has been great. I had the conversion made at Freedom Rides in Lincoln, Ca. Have fun and I am sure you will enjoy what ever Bike you decide to purchase. Three wheels have been wonderful! I am going for a three day ride up to Fort Bragg, Ca. this weekend with 12 other friends from BKCA1. (LEO group I belong to) Ride Safe.

Just a little curious, can you let us know why you are leaning toward the triglide ? Do you ride much with 2 up ?

My first trike was a 2000 GL1500 SE CSC Sport with a solid axle. After riding that trike for several years we took a demo ride on a Roadsmith at Americade in 2015. The independent suspension gives a much smoother ride although the solid axle trike would out handle it in the twisties. We had our GL1800 triked with a Roadsmith kit last fall. We couldn't be happier with our choice.

First off I felt more comfortable on it. It had plenty of power, it had a nice ride, handled great, and I like how it looks much better. Most of our riding is with my wife. I'm only 5'6" with a 28" inseam. I lowered the wing and I can touch the ground much better, but with the wife on it I'm holding up over 1,250 lbs. Don't get me wrong I love the wing also. I'm takin a trip down to Champion to see if they have any of them to try.

Have you tried the wing with the trike conversion, with IRS ? If not give it a try..... I hear ya, Riding with 2 wheels and the wife, can be difficult, especially at slow speeds. This is where the trike takes over !

So, you say that you can keep your 2007 GL1800 that might bring $7-8K if sold, trike it, and be in it for well under $20K ...... and know it's history ...... or buy a strange bike that's already converted by an unknown with who knows what kind of maintenance done through out it's life for as much as $20K ?

Unless you just hate the color or the miles are really way up "up there" ..... seams easy enough to me?

As to whether GL or HD .... I vote GL ..... obviously.

Reaching the ground will not be an issue on a trike.

If you trike your Goldwing, your problem holding up the bike will be gone. :0) I also have a 28 inch inseam and I have no problems at all with the Goldwing now that I triked it. All of my worries of falling over with my wife on the back are gone. We both really enjoy the Trike. I vote....Trike your Goldwing.

Yes, I road a 2015 with the CSC conversion. Goin to see the Champion trikes, and another Harley dealer today. What I didn't mention is I like a lot more things on the Harley than the GW. Like the GPS (touch screen) and where all the control switches are. And I can see a motorcycle engine. I don't care about the Harley hype, but look at what I like in a motorcycle. I also have a Roadstar that will be my single seater.

I can see where you are coming from. I also had a very difficult decision too. One day I voted for the Tri glide, the next day was the Wing. I must say my wife had a bid impact on my decision. She preferred the Wing due to the quality of the ride. Either way i;m sure you will be happy with what ever you decide

I cannot add anymore than has already been posted by others with regard to Goldwings.

I recently went through a similar thought process on my 2009 Goldwing with 97K miles. I posted a thread on the final analysis including the trike build. You may find a lot of the posts very helpful in your own thought process.

Here is the link to that thread:

I think an 2008 Wing, if it has "average" mileage and is good shape will bring more than $8,000. It least it would in my area

If you're handy and have the tools and know how, there are only a couple of kits that can be sold to the D.I.Y.ers. Like some posted try 'em all and pick the one you like.
