    Default 2017 Tri Glide

    Picked up my 2017 Tri Glide today only had time to put 100 miles on it,so here are my initial thoughts.First the ride seems just a wee bit better in the front same in the rear,brakes are the same as my 16 Tri. No oil pressure reading on the Info center it just says OK,overall engine noise is a little better than the 16.Now for the important items,Trans shifts a lot better without that loud clang it still makes noise but nothing like the 16.Heat management is a whole lot better it was in the mid 80's today and i never felt the roasted leg syndrome.The engine seems no smoother than the 16. But with all that the power this engine makes is amazing. My 16 had slipons with a gutted pipe,SE air cleaner and backing plate with a Fuel Moto download and the new 107 is hands down more powerful.The gearing seems different because we can cruise along at 45-50 in 5th gear and just roll on the throttle and this thing pulls,plus my 16 had a lot of backlash when rolling off the throttle you could hear it clunk,not the 17 very quite,so I am very happy at this point that I upgraded.Only time will tell as far as reliability goes.

    Mykneesbehurtin,

    Thanks for the preliminary reports on your first perceived differences between the 2016 TGU and your new 2017 M8-powered TGU. It will be interesting to see how they compare for your tastes. Kevin at DK Customs early findings with very limited ride time are that the M8 engine seemed to run out of steam at about 3000 rpm and seemed like it was wanting to be opened up in terms of air intake, etc. Side-by-side comparisons are very helpful for those of us who contemplate the desire/need to change out trikes. I have a 2016 TGU that is basically stock and I very much have enjoyed it for the past year. Can't wait to hear your comparative comments on the differences that the MY2017 bring to the table.

    Well seeing as though i only have 130 miles on mine i cant tell you what it feels like above 3000,the one thing i discovered today is for me the motor seems to smooth out above 60 in sixth gear and another more disturbing find is that my J&S trike jack wont work on the 17 due to the way they moved the converter and routed the crossover.I put a call into J&S today they said they just found out and are working on hopefully a fix.Now according to the service dept at my dealer they are saying that if a customer installs any gutted or aftermarket head pipes,high flow air cleaner and any tuner or download other than the HD highway approved parts that the dealer will void your warranty.But he said with a small grin if you bought your bike here we can work with you on getting issue solved.He didnt come out and say it be they will over look that stuff.They do have a new EPA compliant tuner,if i under stand him right if you install an high flow air filter and pipes making your bike to lean it will retune it within Factory specs.

    Thats the report around this area engine seemed to run out of steam at about 3000 rpm. Think I'll keep my ol 2016 with only 9560 miles on her.

    Great description, basically the same experiences with me. I love my Trike and would not go back to two wheels. The more I ride it, the more I love it.

    Congrats on the new ride, you might want to check out my post on trike jack from J & S, Bill G got it to work on his 17 trike and has some pics of it on that post, maybe you can find out how he did it, he explained in the post but to much to type out and trying to remember it all is useless

    My J&S Harley trike Lift that I bought for my 2015 also works on my 2017 Tri Glide to and lifts it just fine. It does now take precise placement and more manipulation to get in place under the trike. Fits further back now on swing arm do to a different exaust design on the 2017. The jack now has to be just right because of the Milwaukee 8 new exaust system design.

    Also I did have to rotate a clamp a little for a better fit (this may differ from trike to trike). Again You have to put the jack in at an angle towards the rear axle. Then rotate the short Lift plate on the jack into the up position with the handle. Then wiggle or pull jack sideways back towards the front of the trike by pulling the jack sideways into place. Placing the short lift plate arm on the jack between the belt and the exaust cross over. It's a close fit but it works.

    Also the 2017 Tri runs fine for me in its stock configuration. As you said this 1200 lbs buggy isn't a drag racer it's a cruise and the torque is were it's at.
