I'm not sure what you mean by "Update" Phil. Repair or get a better one??
I've seen someone mention radio and c/b repair by some company but for the life of me I can't remember who. As for a better one, I believe you and the rest of us are out of luck. MP3 players and memory sticks are the audio source of choice by most of us these days.
Hope that helps some.

I'm like an old race horse..... I can still run the race -- Just ache more at the finish line and need more rest between outings.

May want to check here. http://www.sierra-mc.com/radioservice.asp I don't know about the 1800 but if its repairs they do them and some mods are available for some radios.

Buy a pair, (or 4 ) speakers from Sierra that are guaranteed not to blow and blast the hell out of them. That's what I did on my 04 and loved it.
I tried the above and it didn't work, however he's a member of the GL1800rider.com board and has this posted in his profile.
www.wingconnect.com or email at support@wingconnect.com. My brother in law had him fix his radio in his GL1800 he was quick and reasonable.
