Default Another setback...trike is too long.

I've been searching for an RV to live in when I retire and sell my home. I have been looking at the Thor Outlaw, Class A which has a garage that is the same length as my trike so there is NO wiggle room. the edge of the garage floor near the door slopes downward to reduce the angle of the slope so that could prevent trying to load the trike at a slight angle. Looks like the Outlaw may be out of the plan...

Next, I have been looking at a Diesel Pusher and adding a Hydralift (hydralift-usa.com) for my trike. I contacted the maker of the lift and gave them the dimensions of my trike. There response was it will not work since my trike would exceed the legal lane width. My Hannigan trike is 122" long so when turned sideways...it's a no go.

Looks like my final option may be to find an enclosed trailer to haul it with. If I MUST go the trailer route, I will get one that I can use the front half for a shop and to store things that won' t fit under the RV such as a BBQ, portable generator and work bench...

Good news is I still have a couple years for this to all come together.

Many RV makers will custom build for you without much additional cost. Ask about it. Making a room a few inches longer shouldn't be that much of a problem.

Last month I saw John Schoen - adventurer 08's toy hauler's trailer. His Venture / Hannigan trike fitted nicely. Contact him for info on his setup @adventure 08.

A diesel "Super C" would be the direction I would look if I was wanting to do what you are. Never have any issues with not have the towing capacity.

    Hey DBL

We have a Class A Diesel pusher Motorhome that we use to pull a 7x14 trailer that we haul our Trike in. You never even know it's back there

We have decided to sell it because we just don't use it enough. It is in absolutely incredible condition, with all maintenance records.

It is a 1997 Fleetwood American Dream with 115000 miles. It has one large slide and every available option

We paid $39,000 for it last year and I did about $4500.00 of drive train updates to insure it's dependability on the road.

    We are asking $37K

If you are interested, send me your personal email and I will send pic's

DblTrbl, We are going through the same dilemma right now since we traded out 5thwheel toyhauler and 3/4 ton truck on a 39' diesel pusher. What to do about a trailer to haul the trike and a small car ultimately. We decided to put sides on my aluminum 6 x 10 trailer for this winter with a tarp on top to have a makeshift enclose unit for the trike for this winter while we scope out the exact trailer we want longer term. After trading off the pickup and trailer on the motorhome and then purchasing a new light duty pickup I really didn't want to drop a bunch of cash on a big trailer right now. I'll be curious to see what you finally decide on a trailer and camper combination, best of luck.

    Dave

    Thanks for all you input!!!

I'm trying to avoid towing but I do realize that I may need to tow a small car or truck to use in inclement weather.

Have made contact with several folks about the Thor Outlaw Class A toy hauler and I'm waiting for them to provide a couple measurements. That would be ideal as I could put the trike in the garage and still haul a small car/truck if needed.

I know of a couple good deals on slightly used diesel pushers but I'm holding out for either the owner to knock off a few bucks or until spring. I can't see buying now and having it sit in my yard over the winter while paying insurance and payments.

Also, I prefers something newer but within my budget. I would like to be able to get the extended warrantee to cover most of the coach but they have a limit on how old it can be and still be covered.

Lots to think about and consider. Keep the feedback coming please..

Wow, great looking rig!! I would like to see some pics of the interior. Not sure I could get a loan for a '97. I checked with two banks already and they will only go back to '07 and also have a limit on mileage. I will PM you with my email address. Thanks for sharing!!

Another minor issue to consider seeing how your still in NH: In the winter, snow load on the roof might cause damage if not kept under a carport or kept clear by hand after each storm!
Please don't ask how I know...
