    Default Motor identification

    Trying to identify exact year of my motor for timing purposes. The fellow I bought the trike from gave me paper work on the trike. He said it was a Brazil Type 1 1584 cc dual port motor. The numbers on the paperwork stated the number on the case as BB180113. He said it was between a 69 and 74 model. I looked up case numbers and I can't find one with two BB's, just one and it would be from july 69 to july 70. Anybody know what these numbers would tell me. Thanks

    I finally fouind the motor numbers on line. It corresponds to a jan 69 model. In my vw manual it says a 67 through 70 model with engine numbers beginning with h5 and fuel injected models with automatic stick shift to set it a t 0 degrees. Mine is a 69 but not fuel injected. Wonder if I should still go with 0. It is all so confusing. Thanks for the help.

    Are you certain that the engine is al original components?
    Primarily the distributor.
    Most stuff this old has been worked on and put back together with whatever parts are still available.
    It is quite unlikely any factory base static timing specific to year model would still be applicable.

    But.

    Full advance is all the same.
    Timing light it to 28 to 30 at full advance and let idle base timing be whatever it is with whatever distributer you have.

    I have one of the svda distributors on it with the vacum advance and I changed the carbs to weber 34 ict's. That what you said at the end about the full advance at 28 to 30 degrees I was wondering about. If I obtain that I'll just let it be what it is at idle. I'll do that. Thanks for the help.
