Since I'm not in that area I can't really help but to say the 16's are nearly bullet proof so the need for any mechanic would be just normal servicing and fluid changes. But as with any mechanical beast anything can happen and probably will. Get the app SpyderCodes though. It will list the dealers anywhere you might be in your travels under "Real Help".

Not sure I understand why you ask this? Your knew CanAm has warranty, right? The normal service can be done by ones self, especially of one has a service manual.
Or are you unable to perform normal service and the selling dealer is to expensive?

I apparently have it all wrong. I never thought about questioning the question but tried to just give a answer to the question. What a dumb shyt I am.

Folks - I'm still quite new at posting/replying but will learn. Hopefully, I'm doing this correctly. Anyway, thanks to all of you that replied to my post, I appreciate it. To answer some of the questions posed to me:

    1. No, I'm not a gear head but was just looking for someone that works on Spyder outside of warranty work just to save on out of pocket costs.
    2. Thanks for the Spyder Codes App. I will down load.
    3. Basically, want to be able to do oil changes, brakes when needed with someone other than the deal to save some costs.
    4. I do have the (2) year factory warranty plus purchased (3) additional years.

Peg, believe you were a GW owner before the Spyder, how do you compare the two?

Yes I was. Before I go on with the rest of this post,my GW Trike was the only Gold Wing I have ever owned. I rode it for 4 years and put over 50,000 miles on it and I HATED it. It is the second motorcycle I have owned in 50+ years I was glad to see go. Yes it did everything a GW is supposed to do,it was smooth, nothing went wrong with it, it was comfortable. I just didn't like. It rode hard and steered like a dump truck with bad power steering. I was glad to see the new owner drive it away and he thinks it is the greatest bike to come down the road. By contrast I think the Spyder RT Charlotte is great. I was almost ready to quit ridding and she put the fun back in it. Hard riding doesn't wear me out as the Wing did. It is comfortable, smooth, fun, and reliable. It gets better mileage then the trike did,oil changes are about the same interval and the only difference in cost is the extra oil filter and using synthetic oil. I am using car tires on the Spyder so tire life should be about the same. In a little over a year I have put 18000+ miles on it commuting almost every day, going to Sturgis, a TRA rally,San Diego CA,several long rides around Utah, and the Red Rock Spyder Rally. I ride a lot and it has been very reliable and I don't worry about it leaving me anywhere.

Paul, sure appreciate your candor, good post. I can relate to some of your comments, I've always thought my three wheels was a rough rider machine, and riding the TN twisties, that's a real day's work, but I live with it because it does what I want it to do and it's reliable. I've often thought about the Spyder RT, never ridden the thing, but I might like it. I'm only concerned about the maintenance costs on it, that definite slows me down. On the RS, I'm fairly familiar with the 'how to' maintenance and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. As I get older I might not be able to do those things, and bite the silver bullet, spring for the Spyder for a more comfortable ride. Thanks for the response.

Bill the 1330 motors introduced in 2014 are not near so maintenance intensive as the 998s. No valve adjustments,9000 miles between oil changes. And a 6 speed transmission and better gas mileage.

I see premium fuel is required, no surprise there, other than the GW, most m/c's and trikes require premium. What are you getting for mpg? Like the white RT, but see that only the 2017's come in white, love that white. Like the luggage capacity, think I read 40 gallon, on our 2 up trips, gotta have it. Hmmm, 9000 miles on a single oil change, I could live with that, guess it works if the Canam recommends it. The single thing I think about most, I get satisfaction out of doing my own oil change that's a real challenge on the Spyder, so I read, money I save is also a plus. I suppose I could to learn to remove all that Tupperware. I need to watch a YouTube on that procedure instead of a prejudge. Another small detail, think I read the RT is 69 inches wide, gotta check my shed door see if it will fit, if it doesn't, well you know.......Thanks for the back and forth.

I do all my own oil changes and the most difficult part is getting the plastic off the first time. after that it goes pretty quick and once you have done one or two it's no big deal. There are several videos on You Tube on removing the plastic and the owners manual also gives a good sequential description on how to. The 9300 mile interval is Can Am's recommendation. The only big bike I ever rode that didn't require premium were my Yamaha Ventures/Royal Stars. I think they would have run on Kerosene. Not fussy and bulletproof.

Actually as I think about it the most difficult part is getting this old body down on the cold cement to work on it

We just traded a 12 for a 16 and that 12 ran 89 octane from day one just as the 16 is now. I'd prefer at least 91 but this is all we can get delivered here and it is real gas versus whisky. Don't know if that makes a difference. The 12 had 65,000+ miles and the dealer said it was the best running Spyder he's seen and put it on his showroom floor right next to his 16's. He had other older bikes but they are in the used bike area. We took care of this 12 and I think it showed.

I have non ethanol gas in 89 Octane available to me here and use it whenever I fill up locally. On the road I go to the 91 ethanol. I am close to I have close to 19000 on it now since I bought it in June 2015.

I been running both premium and regular gas and really don't notice any difference on how the bike is running

You do the Tupperware once it comes 2nd nature to get to the oil filter on the right side. I trick is getting use to removing the mirrors and reinstalling them on a RT.
I found spray white grease helps installing and when removing the mirrors.

Front width is 61.9 per there web site on a RT
