GPS units?

I've been looking to upgrade a 3 yr old Mio c520 gps. While it's been a great unit it washes out in sunlight so is hard to see then. I've added a hood for it but still there's times when it can't bee seen.
Anyone care to recommend a decent unit? Can't afford the mc specifc ones and so far haven't seen a Garmin that I like ether. Brands don't matter to me as long as they from a reputable company. I do like the larger screens. It gets confusing at times looking thru all the specs so if anyone has had great service from a unit then let me know what you have.

John, didn't you get a sunscreen or something for it to block the glare? I need somethings for mine in the sun.

It is a wide screen that is also waterproof.
I use it not only on bike but also in my truck and yes ... on my SNOWMOBILE !
Talk about being both water proof & vibration proof !

How well can you see the screen in bright sunlight?

I just used mine Nuvi 205 yesterday in bright sun. If you tip it flat up it washes out but if you keep it at 90 deg . I had no trouble seeing it . Set the brightness control on the dark side .
I think the question was looking for a inexpensive GPS so the Zumo or the Nuvi 500 although being the best Motorcycle GPS is also over the inexpensive threshold

Yesterday I did some work for a fellow who traded my labor for a nearly new magellan roadmate 1470 so will be trying it out during the next few days. I'll be on the road tripping, about 2500-3000 miles total so it should get a good work out.

My TomTom fell off my bike and bounced down the road at 55mph. Still works great ..... so I guess it will hold up to all the vibration .

:wtg: Some of the advertising is hyp. I have used 3 different GPS on my bike. All have got wet , all get vibration and none have failed . And Buggi Pilot your lucky I didn't run over it , because until I watched the video I never saw it , Maybe one of the old 1990 Harleys would have ruined it with vibration but I think it would vibrate and fall off before it got destroyed by vibration.

OK report time on the Magellan 1470 since it's been awhile and I'd forgotten this post.
To start with it will wash out in sunlight but not as bad as my Mio did. Several nice features on it that the Mio didn't have either, like a programmable address book, lane indicator on screen for up coming turns on interstate highways as well as given verbally, and very easy to use as well so I'll give this unit a thumbs up.
My wife had bought a Gamin 255W for her car since then and it's a good unit as well and has just about the same stuff on it as the Magellan. The lane change is only verbally indicated so that part gets a thumbs down for me as I'm hard of hearing but for most folks that would be better perhaps. Not too crazy about the colors used on the Garmin but I see they use that combination on all their units. So maybe it was tested as the best and easiest seen screen colors.
Gotta agree with you John as I never really had any failures from vibrations nor getting wet. I've ridden in some pretty heavy frog strangler storms and yet have had any GPS actually quit. i did have a older Mio that was heat sensitive when used in our car and would go out till it cooled off.
So for now I'll be using one of the three on the bike when tripping.
