I have an 08 1800 with builtin GPS, I think it sucks. I want to make a mount for my portable. Just looking for suggestions.
Thank you in advance. Bob

I used to use the suction cup mount with a little silicone behind it. So it wouldn't fall off. Then I got a bike mount.
Ram mounts is the way to go. Use them with my Garmin 590LM.

+2 on the RAM mounts. I have them for the GPS, our drink holders and the phone cradle. A most versatile mounting system. Link: http://www.rammount.com/

It's Ram mounts for me also BUT, it may be my simple mind I seem to find their system a little confusing. Many ways to accomplish the same thing. However once I get it figured out I've never been disappointed in the final results.
E-Bay has the ram mounts cheap, they are a different name but works the same
Thanks for all the answers. I like the ram mount idea. Now all I need to do is spend more money.
I use one of these and like it a lot. It puts the GPS in my line of sight so I don't have to take my eyes off the road.
I purchased a 5" video camera sun shade and modified it for my GPS and it works well.

07 ST 1300 for two-wheeled fun!
You may want to look at a Jon's mount, it is a mount that mounts on the dash right in front of the driver...best mount I ever used.
