Larry, I was joking, because at the time of my post, Quincy was having some nasty weather. We have a daughter and her family, plus the wife has a couple of sisters who live in Texas we visit several times every year. We also have brothers and sisters in Fl, Az, Ca, and NV so we get occasional breaks from the Illinois cold.

My wife's mother, four sisters, and three brothers live in or near Quincy. We also have two daughters and their families who live here, so she goes through withdrawals if we are gone for over 10 days at a time, one and awhile maybe 15 before she becomes unbearable. Me, I'm different, I'd move permanently if it was an option, which is not according to her. Every time I even mention it she is quick to say . Gotta keep her happy.

Midland, in west Texas, got hit with 60mph gusts, and sustained 40mph winds last night. We had a little rain, 88/100th per news. We measured 1/10th. It was blowing so hard I don't think it could have been measured very accurately anywhere! I feel sure that as it rolled on east of us Clint44 and Mikey had to have taken a pretty good hit.

News made a biggie out of it here, then again they get all panicie at 6" so snow. As long as all is ok.

That's quite a family you have there. I have 7 brothers and 2 sisters. 1 brother died 5 years ago and 1 lives in FL, the rest are within 35 miles of Breese, IL.
We have a daughter with 2 young boys and a son with a boy and a girl that are both in college.
The grandkids are young enough they still like coming to Grandma's so my wife would not move anywhere, at least until they get older.

You Texas boys have a great state to ride in. I love Texas!! Been to the Big Bend 23 times. When I first went years ago I stayed at the Easter Egg Motel in Study Butte for $30.00. When the Chisos Mining Co bought it the rates increased slightly - stayed in one of their "cabins" last year for $100.00!! Terlinqua to Presidio is one of my favorite rides.

Yep...that ride is known as the River Road. It is a fun ride and challenging ride given you don't know what might be just over that next sharp curve or just beyond the crest of the hill.

Its challenging at times to just park. You know the big hill with the pullout when you're going West - one rider in my group pulled over too far to the left - bad angle! I heard the "crash" and when I turned around all I could see was a size 14 boot sole and the bottom side of his Ultra. It took 4 grown men to get it upright. He was ok. I swore last year to not stop there again, but now that I'm on 3 I can enjoy that spot once again.

The crotch-rocket riders like that road. We are pleasure riders and am glad of it for that road. We've ccome around a sharp bend or over the crest of a hill to find donkies, goats, stalled vehicles, discarded tires or wrecks not completely cleared away and no real place to go to dodge it at speed. Guess that's the adrenaline rush the rockets get when they encounter that stuff. Us...it makes the heart thump pretty hard - don't enjoy that!

All of the folks I have known online from Texas have been good people, and I've only had one disagreement with any Texans online.

Years ago on a performance car forum, one young feller from Texas didn't like the fact that in my location, I referred to my home town as the oldest city in the U.S. He griped about it, and in response changed his location to something like "Texas: The Greatest State In The U.S."

I told him that the fact that St. Augustine was founded before any other city in the U.S. was verifiable, but his statement regarding the greatness of Texas was simply opinion and I told him that folks from the other 49 "greatest states" could legitimately object.

He started talking about the size of Texas, so naturally I compared Alaska to Texas and showed that Texas was decidedly lacking in the comparison. So, he then tried to put forth the statement that due to its status as a quasi-independent republic prior to its admission to the United States, Texas is the only state allowed to fly its state flag at the same height as the U.S. flag. I showed him that this is false, and that Texas is subject to the same rules as all other states regarding flag etiquette.

Don't get me wrong though...Texas is a great state, and you'd be hard pressed to find a state with a more diverse topography, or a more interesting history.

And we've still got some fools that think we can secede from the U S. Wrong on so many counts. TX can though split into several states. I do not see that happening.

Living in Las Cruces, NM we pretty much have the same weather as west TX. When the wind is blowing 40+ mph the riding pretty much comes to a stop. Wind not the issue, sand, tumbleweeds, trash, dust so bad that roads get closed, are the issues. Come on over to NM and I will take you to the spot where the Gadsden Purchase was signed, which created this part of the US. Jim

Don't feel like the lone ranger. And I even live in TX ! I simply want to winter in the valley. S/o said fine. Go have a blast, but you're going by yourself. (mumble) All the family are near us. Kids, grandkids, great grandkid. Soooooo, it's not gonna happen.

Ahhh Thanks! what can I say...I really enjoy this fourm and all the wonderful people that I've encountered along the way. Time fly's when your having fun!

Well it's 17º according to our weather station. We are always 2º different than our rinky dink airport that has a lot of asphalt and concrete. Supposed to get snow but I'm doubting that prediction.

Yup dreary overcast damp cold weather. Otoh, we aren't getting the crappy snow that they are up by the Red River and further north. Ardmore has over an inch on the ground now. They can keep it.
