Terry got rear-ended at speed...stayed alive but bike is bad

Last Friday our accountants husband got rear-ended in a Hit & Run.

He stayed on the bike for the first somersault, but got thrown off after that.

He's banged up pretty good, but no broken bones, and only a mild concussion (he was wearing a half helmet).

Looking at the bike, you can see Terry was very fortunate to come out of it relatively unscathed.





It was after dark, there was a car in front of him slowing down, and a car behind him going 40+ that just plowed into him.





Lela, our accountant, says Terry was out looking at the bike within 24 hours of getting home from the hospital.

At first he thought it was totaled, but now is already making a list of what he needs to repair it...including replacing the broken swingarm (along with 100+ other items).




The cager that hit him kept going...no one got their plate or description.

If you're inclined, please keep Terry & Lela in your thought/prayers as he recoups from a lot of soft tissue damage.

Man I really hate those who don't have the decency to stop when they've hit someone. A friend of mine lost his younger brother, an avid cyclist, after someone hit him and left him to die on the side of the highway at night in a rural area.

My best wishes go out to Terry and I am thankful he wasn't more seriously injured...things can be replaced, but people can't.

So sorry this happened. Yes, definitely sent prayers and wishes for a good recovery.
That stupid S*-t driver was probably texting - not watching the road. Otherwise how can you not see a bunch of brake lights in front of you? A real shame no one got some kind of I.D. They put a lot of that type thing on Facebook and Twitter around here - a lot of times someone comes across with info that catches the perp.

Break a swingarm? It's probably happened before but I've never heard of it so I imagine ya gotta get hit pretty hard for that to happen. So it must have done a lot of damage to the front of whatever hit Terry. I said a prayer for Terry and Lela, as this is always a losing proposition in more ways than the obvious. Sooner or later this clown is gonna pay. Either he must have been drinking or already in trouble with the law. So he's not too bright. Hope you heal well also.

On the plus side, besides his surviving the ordeal, anything on the bike can be fixed & shovel parts are still in relatively good supply

As far as the hit and run.. Drunk- Drugs- Stolen car Driver without a license .... And the main reason... No insurance ' You can not even guess how many people are out there at any given time for what ever reason driving with out insurance.

Terry defiantly had a biker Angel watching over him! Goodness...he's lucky to have walked away with the bumps and bruises. Like the gang said the bike can be rebuilt. I hope that they catch that SOB

Glad to hear that Terry was well enough to be worried about fixing his bike. The first bike wreck I had kept me away from a bike for several years. Of course I was a teenager, and I broke my arm in the wreck.

Yes, he was most fortunate!

This occurred in a small town, no cameras, no witnesses...but since it is a small town, maybe the vehicle that hit him will turn up and some justice will be had.

At first Terry was just going to total the bike...as I'm sure his insurance company will do....but he has had it for so many years (sentimental value), to him it is worth it to get it riding again.

If it is totaled by the insurance company he should have the option of taking a deduction on the payout and keep the bike. I did that on a car that was totaled due to hail. Only thing is, I could no longer have full coverage on the car and I had to get a salvage title. The grandson has a school car with a lot of dents. Jim
