Damn and I just bought the Cool Masters! Wards keeps delaying building fans; at first on his site it was stated that they would start shipping this January; now it is the summer. Someone will always fill the void. My first choice was the wards because of the size but in discussion with people in the know, love jugs was the way to go.
Nuc
Have to wonder if there was a buyout of the ward's design. It resembles it too closely not to. I too have been patiently waiting for the ward's deposit process to open back up....so with all the back and forth between the two designers it sure looks like it might have gone this way
I like Harley's newest fan solution. Discreet placement. Hot air directed down and out.

Damn, can't get any closer to a knock off design than that, including the on/off switch. I really wonder what is going on, I respect Jason and like his product, if there isn't some type of agreement between them that's a pretty blatant copy.

It would be nice to hear from Jason for those that are waiting to buy from him (mainly to help keep small businesses' going and from what I've read he is a reputable person) I am sure he reads these posts and if he is still in business myself and other people I am sure would wait for his product. If he is going out of business it would be nice for him to say so
Been waiting myself as mentioned earlier, he's update to the page was this:
New deposits temporarily suspended. I will not be able to ship for at least 6 months, so about the middle of 2017. This is my availability update, please do not email requesting an update.
I sent an email:
Morning Jason,
I've been monitoring your sight since the beginning of summer and was inquiring on the cooling fans you make. You came highly recommended by the trike forum I'm on. Been eagerly awaiting your return of supply, but just wanted to see how the wait might be ? Had looked at the jugs fan but been told your the guy who knows what they are doing. Thanks in advance and I'll be looking forward to hearing from you.
Randall
His answer:
sorry I cant offer a firm answer, sometime after the first of the year.
This was back in November...
Jason states on his website "New deposits temporarily suspended. I will not be able to ship for at least 6 months, so about the middle of 2017. This is my availability update, please do not email requesting an update. I do not offer a waiting list or individual email notification for availability. When I am able to fill orders I will publish it here and make the deposit form available again. FYI I am not out of business or going out of business, I simply have greater priorities at this time. Sorry for the inconvenience. "
It does not appear that he plans to go out of business but has higher priorities at this time doing some other things.
I am just hoping that he gets going again... I had to leave his fans on my '14 when I traded it in on my '17, and I really loved them. No problem, I figured, just order a new set. Time will tell.

This is what I know.
I just got a call from Steve West of Love Juggs regarding this post and he will be posting here shortly. Steve West and partner David Sandel hold a U.S. Utility Patent No. 8812189 on the design which was filed in April of 2011. I'd say that this would likely explain why Ward's has stopped producing fans, but I do not know all the details. Below is the link to Steve and David's motorcycle twin cooling fan patent.
https://www.google.com/patents/US8812189
Pictures from Love Jugs Booth at V-Twin Expo This past Weekend
Steve says Love Juggs has improved upon the design and due to market demand, they are producing a similar but improved design which will be available in several configurations. (above) The skull design will not be an option.
Business is business and I do not blame anyone for protecting their intellectual property and seizing upon market demand when the demand is obviously not being met.
Jason Ward claims on his site (screen shot below from today 1/29/16) that he had a patent pending but I am told he did not and a patent search shows no patent pending or issued in his name. I am in no way attacking Jason Ward, and wish him the best, I am just stating the facts as I know them in order to answer questions. If Ward's did have a patent pending or issued on the design, there is no way Steve would have come out with the Mighty Mite fans.

Update 1/30/16: Mr. Ward must be reading these posts because the mention of the claim 'Patent Pending' as seen in huge letters in the screenshot of his website homepage above has been removed from his site. A picture is worth a thousand words.

What's going on between Love Jugs and Ward's? As many of the readers of this forum know, Love Jugs and Ward's have been engaged in an ongoing dispute regarding the quality, legality, and performance of our competing products.
Plain and simple, our company, Hammerhead Engineering owns the utility patent for twin fan air cooling systems for V-Twin engines. MOTORCYCLE ENGINE COOLING DEVICE AND SYSTEM U.S. Patent No. 8812189.
Our patent was pending before Jason had his first inkling of copying us. Wards produced his product in spite of being aware of our pending patent. He even falsely claimed publicly that he had a patent or a patent pending. Not true.
We were faced with the choice of a time consuming and costly legal battle or beating him head-to-head on the battlefield. We heard your voices and we decided to give you what you want, the look of our competitor with the quality and service of Love Jugs. We decided to copy the Wards look while improving the quality and performance.
Since the Wards product has several inherent flaws in its design, merely copying his product would not meet our far superior standards of quality, ruggedness, and reliability, that Love Jugs are known for in the motorcycle world. The result is the Mighty-Mite.
We have successfully engineered several major improvements into the smaller fans that makes our Mighty-Mite a far superior product, in every conceivable way.
Our goal was to give the Harley rider the look that many of you seem to go for, but more importantly, our mission was to present you with a far superior choice. Our engineers were very successful in accomplishing that goal. You, and your Harley, will be the beneficiary of our ending the dispute in the marketplace rather than the courtroom.
We didn’t know that Wards was going to go off the market when we began this project a year ago but that is the case. Like you, we are wondering what has happened to Jason? Now you know that you are the reason that we are adding the Mighty-Mite to our product line.
I'm sure that any of you who’s intellectual property was infringed on would take action to protect your invention. For us it made more sense to add to our line than to proceed with a costly and attention robbing legal battle. You asked for it, we gave it to you.
The size and look of the Wards fan reengineered to significantly up the quality. This is the first of a three part series that will go into the specifics in more detail.
I appreciate all your questions and comments. This Forum is a place to bring light where there is misinformation and misunderstanding, so let’s use it as such. Therefore I’m pleased to make myself available to supply accurate information about LoveJugs. Throughout our history on this Forum I believe that we have been judicious in not attacking Wards, even when provoked at times. We knew that many of the claims made by Jason were incorrect and unsubstantiated but we mostly would not let ourselves be distracted and simply focused on our own products knowing that the time of truth would arrive.
The most we did was to post the $25,000 Challenge to all cooling systems on our web site. We asked any one to face us in the laboratory to compare the power, noise levels, materials, reliability, longevity, repairs, and other features of our products as compared to Wards or any other system. The result has been no takers in 3 years.
Our position is totally based on facts, not on speculation or salesmanship. We are stand up people who believe in being scrupulously truthful. We stand behind what we say. I welcome any honest questions or opposing opinions. Let’s talk things out. I intend to finally clear the air and get the facts out so the Harley and Indian motorcycle owners can make informed choices for their cooling needs.
As requested, I will get back tomorrow with the specific reasons why no other cooling product of any kind can do what LoveJugs can do to keep your engine cool. This protects both you and your engine from the excess heat especially generated in slow riding conditions. Even if you are not as uncomfortable as many of your brothers and sisters, your engine suffers with every hot mile you ride. You trike owners feel that ring of the fire you're riding in even more than the two wheelers.
Do these automatically turn on, or are they manually switched on and off?

Steve is the CEO of Hammerhead Engineering but I had an opportunity yesterday to talk with Dave Sandel, Steve's apparent partner and the inventor of the Love Jugs. Dave provided a wealth of information concerning the products they are selling and he stated that for maximum cooling, the new Cool-Master 38mm fans put out the most cooling that the company's fans have ever produced. The Mighty-Mights look a bit smaller and they reportedly also put out less cross-flow ventilation for our big twins.
In reading between the lines on a lot of posts from different folks that have been trying to tame internal heat issues, I personally decided after talking with Dave that the new Cool-Master fans with simple plug and play capability and maximum airflow was what I wanted for my 2017 M8-engined Tri Glide. Dave had sent me a couple of pictures of installed new stainless steel fans and they looked terrific on a Tri Glide.
I plan to be riding from Florida out West in April/May of this year and will likely encounter some pretty hot weather. Given that I am buying the fans for engine thermal management and not necessarily to tame felt heat, I decided after talking with Dave Sandel that the slightly smaller but highest output Cool-Masters were the fans that I wanted on my new trike. Dave was careful in not directly knocking any competition but the company as another poster had reported has a patent for their fans unlike the competition.
In order to not get into a costly pissing contest with others that may be piggy-backing on their designs, Hammerhead Engineering cleverly devised a $25K shootout offer to any competing fan product to empirically prove that another design/fan system is superior to their product. This offer tells me that 1. They are willing to put their money where their mouth is and 2. It is likely that they are not interested in losing $25K in a head-to-head shootout and are confident that they have the best product currently on the market.
Dave had advised that at their various booths at bike shows, they leave a Harley twin idling all day with Love Jugs on the bike and do not have any problems with overheating on what must be a very impressive static presentation of their product and its effectiveness. Given the data that Dave was able to share about the sourcing of the fans and the longevity of the fans, it became a sort of no-brainer for me to pony up $399 on a sale they currently have going and ordered a set yesterday.
On my 2017 M8 Tri Glide Ultra, I have noticed that the engine fans come on more frequently and stay on longer along with the EITMS activating a bit more frequently than my 2016 TC103 Tri Glide I traded off in anything but cool days and so living here in Florida and roaming all over the country, I decided that the new Cool-Masters would likely be the ideal simplest fix for a pretty warm running engine in the new M8.
Dave also mentioned that the fans were designed to hold up to pretty harsh conditions and keep on running and they have experienced very few fan failures over the years. He also said that it takes only a minute or two to replace a fan should one ever fail as they designed the fans to be easily serviceable. Since Dave advised that he is an engineer and also happens to be the inventor of the Love Jugs, his words and the seemingly plethora of information he was able to share convinced me that the Love Jugs were the way to go.
The slightly smaller diameter profile while being more effective cooling with the Cool-Master fans over their original product was what cinched my decision. I personally found the original fan products and housings to be a bit large for my tastes and the slightly smaller and for my eye more attractive housings in the Cool-Masters seemed more aesthetically pleasing for my new ride.
Disclaimer, Dave did not offer nor did I ask for any discount beyond the sale they are offering on the new Cool-Master fans. They reportedly have a referral program whereby you get some form of compensation for referring a friend and can recoup some money. That is all fine and good but I am not much interested in being a shill for anybody's product. I just want to have a cool running big twin Harley and so I bought their product yesterday and can't wait to install them which reportedly is about a 15-20 minute project.
Bob Schilling
p.s. I very much enjoyed talking with Dave who had lots of information to impart on this very important topic for the health of our primarily air-cooled engines and I appreciate them being a sponsor of this terrific site.

Man, sorry about being so long-winded. However, yesterday, I was at my local Harley store picking up Part # 69201599 that is an Electrical Connection Update Kit -Touring that fits '17 and later touring and trike models. This $30 wiring adapter allows the Love Jugs to plug and play with my new 2017 Tri Glide Ultra.
While I was at the Harley store, a fellow with a 600 mile 2017 M8 Street Glide was talking with me about cooling issues and mentioned that he had been asked to participate in a memorial parade for a fallen friend. He mentioned that his 2017 SG shut down x2 on the parade route due to how slow they were going and the fact that his bike was overheating and shutting itself down.
This fully reinforced to me the fact that these large twins even and/or more especially in 2017 with the EPA mandates of lean running engines really require as much cooling as we can throw at them. I doubt that the Love Jugs are keeping the engine in the optimal 180-200 degree operating range for recip engines most of the time on hot days but it has got to be helping those moving mechanical parts to be a bit less heat soaked than without them.
