Default Here is the promised comparison of Love Jugs new Mighty-Mites with Wards

You kept asking for answers on why we claim that our “Mighty Mite” cooling system is superior to the Ward's “WPWFCS” product. No disrespect to our competitors or the Harley community is intended. We're just presenting the facts that you have asked for. Love Jugs offer you smart engineering, impeccable quality, and a much greater value.

Love Jugs newest cooling system “Mighty Mite” is far superior to Wards “WPWFCS”. Although the appearance is similar, there are major engineering improvements that were necessary to bring the Mighty Might up to the high quality, ruggedness, and performance that was required for the Love Jugs name to be attached to this product, here's why....

    1. The heart, and most important part of these units are the motors powering the fans. Both units have close to equal power yet the Mighty Might fans are far more reliable, explanation to follow. Wards buys inexpensive off the shelf Delta brand fans that are manufactured with an all plastic frame and housing. Due to the severe vibration, heat, and stresses experienced by the fans when installed on a Harley engine, the all plastic construction is prone to failure. Our propriety custom manufactured fans have eliminated the high failure rate caused by an off the shelf, all plastic fan. All Love Jugs fans are manufactured with a brass base (Patent Pending) that adds tremendous strength to handle the severe operating conditions experienced by their use on a Harley engine. The off the shelf fans used in the Wards product, were never intended to be used in such a violent and punishing environment.

With the violent vibration experienced by these products, failure of a fan, switch, wiring, etc is inevitable, yes, it's possible even on a super rugged Love Jugs unit. No worries if anything should fail on the Mighty Mite. All internal parts are easily replaceable even by a person with limited mechanical abilities. Example: If a Mighty Mite fan should fail, smart engineering will allow the consumer to replace the fan easily. The time required to complete the plug and play fan replacement is about 30 seconds, (not a misprint) A Wards fan failure requires the entire unit to be sent back to Wards for repair because it’s quite a task to replace the fan unit. A task that not many would attempt once they discover what is involved to successfully complete the Ward's fan replacement procedure.

Another example: If a toggle switch fails on the Wards product and requires replacement, once again, the entire unit needs to be sent back to Wards for repair, because the switch cavity on the Wards is filled with GE silicone making it extremely difficult to dig it out for replacement because the silicone encapsulates the switch and the wires. In our tests we were not able to complete this task without a lot of time spent, and the wires were damaged and needed to be replaced trying to free them from the silicone bond. Mighty Mite's have an access plate with a gasket. Removal of two screws allows for the removal of the plate and easy replacement of the switch if required. No soldering is required since our design uses plug in electrical terminals. Ward's switch replacement (after digging out the silicone) requires the de-soldering of the wires and then soldering is required to attach the wires to the switch.

    2. Plug and play harness. All Love Jugs units come with a wire harness complete with a Deutch plug that plugs into the accessory switch plug on Harley's equipped with that feature. Also included are all electrical parts required if direct battery hook up is desired. Wards does not offer the plug and play installation.

    3. Mighty Mite's also includes a new heavy duty Vibration Damper in every box, to replace the stock Harley vibration damper. This heavy duty and 33% thicker vibration damper better positions the unit for the strongest and most desired installation. Wards does not include a new heavy duty Vibration Damper.

    4. Since the Wards product is not user serviceable, If you experience an issue that requires some sort of repair, all required repairs need to be shipped back to Wards for repair or replacement. That costly and aggravating procedure can take 30 days and longer, to get your Wards cooling system back on your Harley. If a Mighty Might unit should require a repair of any sort, the unit will be back up and running with a very easy to replace new part in a flash, usually within 2-3 days you're back up and running. No boxing the unit up for shipping, no shipping costs, no trips to the post office, Everything is on us because we honor the trust that you have put in us to present you with the best cooling products that money can buy. We will never let you down!

    5. Customer Service. As all current Love Jugs owners know, Love Jugs customer service is our highest priority, that's why we offer assistance to any and all customers seven days a week. In the rare case that any replacement part is required, we priority mail the part at our expense, usually the same day or the next day if request comes in too late to get it out to the Post Office. In eight years, not a single customer has been ignored or denied quick resolution of any issue they may have. Any posts saying we did not promptly respond to any of our customers is simply not true. We are delighted and proud of the many testimonials by our customers praising our amazing customer service.

Although it's obvious even to the untrained eye, it costs a lot more to manufacture our Mighty Mite cooling system compared to the Wards product. Even our main frame hub is thicker and stronger than Wards. We are currently offering the flat black model with the screen front at a very low introductory price of $299 and the all chrome screen front model at only $349. This price will go to $329 soon for the black, the chrome will stay the same.

This is not a sales pitch because we are about 30 days away from offering this product for sale. Ordering our Mighty Mite will also be much easier than the Ward's back and forth deposit system, When offered for sale, you will simply click the "Buy it now" button on our website, and your Mighty Mites will arrive at your doorstep typically within in 2-3 days. Thank you all for your interest in our product, We will never let you down!

P.S. You are going to love your new Mighty Mite cooling system, I dare say that once you have a Love Jugs equipped Harley, you will never ride without them ever again.

Default Mighty Mites vs. Cool-Master Love Jugs

Steve, In talking with your partner and inventor of the Love Jugs, Dave Sandel, about the new Mighty Mites vs. the new Cool-Master fans you all are making, he suggested that the Cool-Master fans produce more CFM flow than the Mighty Mites. Do you happen to have some specific numbers on the differences in CFM air movement between the two products? I ordered the Cool-Master fans because I wanted maximal airflow across my jugs even though I have a wet-head, oil/air-cooled M8 Tri Glide Ultra. I plan to do a bunch of riding out West and into hotter/higher climes where I wanted maximum cooling efficiency. Bob

Default Cool-Master vs. Mighty Mite Love Jugs

I talked with Dave at Love Jugs this morning and he advised that the new Mighty Mites cooling abilities will be within 1% of the new Cool-Master fans they make. However, in order to be comparable, the Mighty Mites will be running at approximately 13,000 rpm whereas the Coo-Master fans will be running at approximately 8,500 rpm. What this means is that even at idle, Dave advised that the Cool-Master fans will not make extra noise whereas the Mighty Mites may add some additional noise coming from the fan units. In terms of reliability, Dave said that they should be comparable even with the difference in rpm's.

Default Finished Installation of Love Jugs Cool-Master Fans

Well, today I completed the installation of Love Jug's new Cool-Master fans in the stainless steel housings. It took me several hours to carefully study the instructions, successfully remove the HD vibration damper and replace it with the Love Jugs supplied damper and secure the wiring. My first impressions are that these fans are made to exceptionally high standards for fit and finish. As you will note in the above couple of pics, the left side of my 2017 M8 engine now looks much nicer!

On installation, the trick to removing the HD red loctited damper was to direct a hair dryer to the backside of the fan horn mounting brace in order to degrade the Loctite's hold on the threaded rod that goes into the very robust brace that is secured to one point each on both jugs. I found that taking a pair of channel locks and securing them such that I would not bang into the underside of my Tri Glide tank was crucial.

After removing the original HD damper and rod that holds the horn and subsequently the horn and Love Jugs, I left a new threaded rod/damper that I used red Loctite with in the brace overnight to harden. This morning, I began to install the horn and Love Jugs onto the threaded rod and had to study how to route the Love Jugs power cable through the left underside of the engine without getting close to the fins and then over to the HD plug that I had purchased to connect to the existing free plug and play circuit over on the right side of the trike under the right access panel.

After figuring out where the wires should go and how I was going to secure them with the supplied tie wraps, I reassemble the horn and fans and mounted them with 100 inch-pounds of torque on the acorn nut/washer to affix them to the former horn only vibration rod.

The end result is a BEAUTIFUL enhancement to the left side of my TGU M8 engine that shakes very little at idle and cannot be heard while moving. However, at idle, with ear plugs in and wearing a 3/4 helmet, I could hear the din of the fans running at approximately 8,500 rpm. The sound was pleasant and not overly loud but it was easily heard through my riding setup. I would imagine that the new Mighty Mites running at 13,000 may be significantly more apparent at idle?

Anyway, I am absolutely delighted that I bought these to help cool my $6k M8 engine (that is the warranty replacement cost of the engine only from Harley) and suspect that it will add many years and miles to this new lump of mine that only has 1540 miles on the clock.

The three pictures show the auxiliary power plug that connects to the optional HD power cord and subsequently to the Cool-Master fan plug. The other two pics are of how the Cool-Master fans look on my 2017 TGU and how it dresses up the left side of the engine. Bob

Nice write up. I currently have the Wards fans, but if they go belly up I'll be buying the Mighty Mites. I have had my 2016 since Sept. and I have never had the radiator fans come on so the fans do make a difference. You will be happy you installed them

    Default Cool-Master Fans on M8

I was thinking back on my conversations with Dave Sandel, the inventor of Love Jugs who mentioned that he had not worked with the new M8 engines and his product. He had advised that you could not hear the fans at idle with the TC103. However, with the M8 engines, I can certainly hear the fans running but it is not an obnoxious sound.

What I had to remember was how impressed I was with the reduction in mechanical engine sounds when I went from my 2016 TC 103 wet head to the new M8 wet head. I think this is what accounts for the noticeable sound of the fans operating during idle.

For those that have M8 engines and are noise sensitive, I would think that the new Mighty Mites with their 13,000 rpm fan motors would make more noise than they might prefer. Sure, they are $100 less expensive but when you talk about the money we invested in some of these expensive newer HD touring bikes, what is an extra $100 in terms of the overall financial outlay?

I would argue, not much difference but what will likely be a huge difference in owner satisfaction for folks that don't want to hear loud fan noises. Just sayin'. Everybody has a different level of sensitivity to ambient sounds. I personally find the stock M8 TGU exhaust pipes to be plenty loud for my tastes and would actually prefer about 10 decibels less at higher rpm's. But that is an idiosyncratic preference and many want louder pipes than come stock so again it comes back to personal preferences. At least, I could provide one person's perspective on how they are experiencing these well thought out fans from Love Jugs.

I only have one other concern which my wife would like to have aired. The Love Jugs with the name emblazoned on all sides of the box just has a USPS shipping label attached to the box. Our female mail carrier came up to the door with the "love jugs" and kind of sniggered when handing them over to my wife. My wife sort of thinks that she was hand delivering a sex toy or something I think she would have preferred these to have come in a plain paper wrapper

Nice write up and they do look great on your TG, I may have to check into these.
as for the wife and postal worker, your wife should play it up as much as she can. Tell the Postal person, "oh I just love my new love jugs! My husband is so please with the performance! My husband loves the looks of them and they make him smile!"
that should give them something to talk about....😂

Casper, Great suggestion on how to handle the mail carrier I will mention it to my wife. On the fan note, since you have a 2016 TC103, having installed these fans and seeing how effective they are from an air movement level, I would strongly suggest getting them for your beautiful ride.

Not only will they tend to keep you and your bride more comfortable but the all important reason to get them is to lower the operating temps of our large cubic inch twins. The anecdotal stories that Kevin has been sharing about ovaled cylinders and failed leak tests on the 103's suggest that heat is a potential real culprit.

I put almost 15k on my 2016 TG before trading it and ran it in some very hot weather out west on a 6k mile trip. I would dearly have loved to have the jugs on that trip. The Love Jugs by all reports seem to really help keep the temps down and the Cool-Master fans are reportedly the best ever according to Dave Sandel, the inventor of the original Love Jugs and this subsequent iteration which I happen to like even more because of the reduction in the size of the fan housings.

I plan to do some static testing with and without the fans running and take some readings with an IR temperature gun to see just how effective the surface temps are of the jugs in my trike.

Bob
Say, Capt Bob, when you talk about the supplied damper, did you get their additional Anti-Vibration Master Kit, or just the parts supplied with the fan kit? Just wondering.
    Thanks.

Love Jugs supplies a look-alike damper/rod. I didn't check to see if the one they supply is a bit longer for the front. I measured the one they supplied and screwed the slightly shorter end into the bracket.

I should have mentioned something in my post about removing the original damper/rod assembly. The rubber surrounds two disks on each end of the rubber donut (damper) that makes it difficult to successfully get your channel locks over both the metal end and rubber to crank that thing off.

I took a box cutter and cut away some of the original rubber surrounding the disk at the front part of the original damper so I could get a better "bite" on the unit. With the rubber surrounding that disk, it makes it difficult to get much torsional bite on the rubber damper as the rubber tends to give with the forces exerted by the channel locks. So, by removing some of the rubber surrounding the metal disk, I was able to get a better grip and less flexing so that I was able to spin that mother off.

It was a bit of a chore until I realized that I needed to take a hot hair dryer and degrade the backside of the red loctited rod that goes into the engine-mounted horn bracket. With the help of some serious heating of the backside of the heavy duty engine-mounted bracket, the sucker finally gave way and I was able to lefty loosey get that thing off and replace it with the standard supplied Love Jugs unit.

Looks good. Kinda late to the party but to me it looks like that rear plug wire is going to fall off or is not down on the plug all the way. Maybe just an optical delusion?

It is not an optical illusion based on my delusional state. The spark plug connector sits significantly higher on the rear plug than the front exposed plug. Can't figure what is causing the difference. I measured the plug caps and they appear to be the same dimensions?

You know, its funny that you mention it because when I was aligning the Love Jug fans, I was kind of faked out by the difference in how much the spark plug porcelain was showing above each fan. I decided to use a different reference point because when I used the exposed spark plugs, the fans and horn were tilted funny. Are these trikes hand made???

Judging by outward appearance , looks to me that love jugs copied Jason's fan system .

Slaw, Your observations could open a big can of worms like it did over on the hdforums website. The fact is that Love Jugs has a patent for their fan system and Jason's fan system does not. We only have one side to the story but it appears that there may have been possible infringement of a Love Jug patent? Love Jugs has reportedly been making fans for 8 years and has put in the time and money to obtain a patent. Jason has at least temporarily ceased production and has not given a clear reason why? Don't really know much more than that other than the fact that Love Jugs put up a $25k challenge to any comer for a fan efficiency shootout. I know people that are very happy with both systems. Love Jugs has advised that their modular system allows for fan replacement in your home that takes less than a minute. Reportedly, Werks fans have to go back to the manufacturer for repairs. I was accused by a fellow on the other website, until I called him out on it, of being a shill for Love Jugs. Hell, I am a retired doc and thankfully don't need to be a shill/stooge for anybody except my lovely bride

Rick, I hear you. This is the patent link for Love Jugs that was applied for in 2011 (http://www.google.com/patents/US8812189). Interestingly, Ward reports on his website that he started his cooling fan program about 2009. I really hate pissing contests. Ward seems like a standup guy and veteran judging by his website and I appreciate his expertise and service to our country. He also appears to have done quite a bit of testing. OTOH, Dave Sandel, the inventor of Love Jugs appears to have also done extensive testing of his products and what I am seeing in the current iteration of the Cool-Master fans is very impressive to me from a build/functional standpoint. My fans run at 8500rpm whereas the Werks look-alikes MightyMites from Love Jugs run at 13,000rpm. I am kind of noise sensitive so prefer the lower rpm fan units.

Given how many large cubic inch v-twins that could benefit from auxiliary cooling, I agree with you that I think the playing field is extensive enough to support many innovators and pissing contests can only hurt the overall endeavor as it happened with Indian/Harley. I don't have a dog in the fight and so hope that all parties prosper and continue to innovate!

    Default Love Jugs

I'm definitely purchasing Love Jugs my question is should I purchase the MightyMites or the larger Coolmasters ?

Do the MightyMites cool as well as the CoolMasters ?
