    Default Honda Fury Chopper

My Honda Dealer loaned me a Fury Chopper one Saturday for a Test Ride, and my Impressions. This is a really nice motorcycle. The "chopper feel" leaves once the wheels start turning above about 30mph. I even did the mountains and some country twisties on it...."flicked" really well. Parking lot slow maneuvers quickly remind You that You're on a chopper (those of You that have ridden them), but about it's only bad trait. Rides like a really good cruiser, and the seat is actually really comfy...more comfy than a stock VTX1300 seat (IMO)....."skuuter"......

I've read a couple of articles/reviews and they are suppose to be good but not on a cross country ride. That author said it was to small for cross country. i've not seen one yet though.

It has fuel injection and different cams than the regular VTX1300 (I used to own a VTX1300C) and puts out more bottom/mid-range torque, and geared lower. It prefers the 50 to 60mph range with 70 about tops for cruisin', unlike the std. versions which will cruise all day at 80-90mph if Someone wants to. More of a round-town/local area Bike where most Choppers spend their lives anyway............ As a Trike though, the Diff could be geared higher......:wtg:

Not real popular around here. The only place I've ever seen one is at a Honda dealership.

Seemed to me that Mother Honda jumped on the chopper craze way after it's peak. The style has gone on through bobbers and onto custon baggers and trikes. Quite unlike Honda to be so far behind the curve like that.

What is kinda strange is that Honda has dropped the whole VTX line other than the new stretched framed models. The VTX-1300R is gone as are the other VTXs. Not sure that was a wise move sales wise but the new 1300s sure are lookers. I just wonder if the forward controls will work for short legged people.

The way I heard it (word of mouth) Honda is moving all assembly back to Japan, and couldn't support all the models right away at home. So the VTX's were dropped.

JJ and I have been talking about building a Fury Trike ever since they came out. Still a possibility.

The way I heard it is- that they already have...and that the GW's are now built in Japan... VTX's are no longer produced, and were discontinued because of their less than stellar sales in North America. (No surprise here, I'm sure, to anybody who has ever owned one or moved/talked in those circles). A real shame too in my opinion, as I feel VTX's are a superb motorcycle and a great ride/experience. Honda just failed miserably in it's advertising and sales. I also think too many people felt they were just too big to handle and were intimidated by them, (which they shouldn't have been), or that they weren't made in America. (which they were by the way... in Marysville, Ohio...same place as Goldwings)...and if you believe some, it contained more American made parts than Harley itself. Just what I heard/read. Chumbly-

The VTX1800s weren't good sellers and needed to go but the VTX1300s that replaced them sure were. They are a great looking and great riding machine. Sales were brisk on the 1300s but Honda wanted an update and did a good job IMO. I just question the wisdom of getting rid of the R/C style bikes. They are a fantastic bike and make a great trike.

Hey Dave, Id LOVE to see a 1300 Fury trike!

Hey Dave, Id LOVE to see a 1300 Fury trike!
I've owned both VTX1300s and VTX1800s....The 1800s were slow handling (Best handling version was the VTX1800F, but came out long after they already had a bad reputation), top heavy, and cumbersome in parking lots, and really tight twisties, or under 40 mph. The 1300s handled Great, very "flickable". Always loved the 1800 Torque, and Powerful Brakes though.

Yes, the forward controls on the New 1300s is a stretch for my Wife (5'2"). No way She could operate one very well. Fits me great at 5'7" 30" inseam, but 5'4" inchers down looks to be the cut-off. Great lookin' Bikes, but slow sellers so far. The Tour Version with the Windshield and Saddlebags are the only one my Dealer has moved...and Yep, a Fury Trike would look Great....:wtg:
