Your tax dollars at work! At least he was caught and charged. I hate it when something like this is covered up, which happens.
Our local sheriff was arrested yesterday for embezzlement and obstruction of justice,he has over thirty year of outstanding service with the department.
He was arrested by the corner who is the only one who has the power to arrest a sheriff
He is now being held in another countys jail with out bond on a suicide watch.

Dipping his hands in the till. What a tea leaf!!! Hope he has to pay back what he nicked..
HE was arrested coming out of a casino which is about twenty miles away.
I wonder if he has a gambling problem.
His salreay is a hundred thousand a year also his wife works.
Sounds like he may have a gambling problem but I still cant have much sympathy for someone who makes their living imprisoning people for doing the same thing.

Sad, such a long career and this is what he will be remembered for.
I think in SC a constable can arrest a Sheriff as well.

It is sad, but it is also infuriating when someone in a position of trust turns out to be a manipulator, thief, and all-round criminal! Like Zook, I feel little sympathy for him!

Since it's been mentioned, here's the facts known today.
Mr. Gray allegedly started "borrowing" money from commissary funds that were to be used for undercover drug buys. On at least 3 occasions, Mr Gray ask for loans of these funds from the drug officer in charge of them. He is also allegedly ask the department's money person for a loan, which was refused.
Unknown at this time why the undercover drug enforcement officer waited so long to report a concern.
Even though Mr. Gray was arrested at a gambling casino in Shelby County, the investigation that led to the arrest showed no gambling problems are involved.
Charges: Misuse of Government funds, obstruction of justice.
I have been a member of this department, in different capacities since 1981. Mr Gray has been w/the department since 1977.
I am devastated and pray there has been some terrible mistake/misunderstanding here and all charges will be dropped.

Send him to Illinois, we're used to public officials behaving badly. Wonder if the jury has come back in on the impeached govenor's case yet. Must go check CNN. Of course the gov before him is still serving time as well. Still it's always hard to see a long time elected official behaving badly.
In Florida they just caught the city officials (can't remember the name of city) paying themselves exorbitant salaries. It is a city of 25,000 people and the city manager was being paid $800,000 per year and the rest of the city staff was grossing between $400,000 and $800,000 each. Pretty good pay for a city of 25,000, don't you think? Just another example of what government is dloing to the citizens of Amerika.

I wonder if they will still let him have his pension? I wouldn't doubt it, even though I don't think they should.

Nope, no sympathy here....I even have a cousin servin' time right now for the same thing. He was a Police Officer, then a Sheriff in another Tennessee County about 150 miles from here. Got caught doin' the same....no sympathy from me either....!!!
While everyone, thank God, still has the right to free speech, I would wonder why so many jump on something like this with "tar & feather" comments??
I still believe in "innocent until proven guilty"!
As I stated earlier, Bud has been a close friend for many, many years! Still having a very hard time with this. I am smart enough to realize an investigation showed probable cause or the arrest would not have been made but, we are to hate the sin, not the sinner.
