I tried the Avon Trike tire starting with 4,500 miles on my bike,,, pulled the avon trike tire off 2 days ago with 13,000 miles on the trike..... 39lbs of air cold and ran 2 oz's of dyno beads.... thats only 8,500 miles I got out of it,,,,I live in NW ark like someone else says,, these roads around here made of chip and seal will kill the life of a tire,,, and it did mine.... Holy Christmas, softer ride, soft rubber. I know, the chip roads are hard on tires.

I put a BT-45 on my Trike and after reading pros and cons decided to reverse the tread. Got 15,000 miles. Bought another and mounted it normally. Have over 20,000 on it now with a little less than 3/32 still left on it. Going to switch it out soon before I tow it to Florida for the Fall months. When I get down to 2/32 or a little more I pull them off the bike. Not worth the worry just to get a few more miles. Besides, that BT 45 is so much cheaper than those Dunlops I used to buy. Been real happy with the performance of the tire. The stock Wing front tire just doesn't hold up well when we Trike these machines.

Was your BT 45 (front) or a BT 45 (rear)? I ran a BT 45 (rear) before I mounted a Cobra trike tire for a trial run, I was happy with the BT 45.

    Just saying......
I think it's likely still a long way short of the width of those big rears and carries much greater pressure at the tread (lbs. per squ inch) at the road than those two rears holding up the rear.

That will last us 3 ..... maybe 4 years .... good 'nuff for me. Well worth the better steering & ride IMHO.

    Default Miles ?

We are coming up on 20k miles on the Avon trike tire 2 up always. Killer likes being along.. It has a little cupping. Maybe 3 to 4k left ? My first trike so don't have a comparison. The only reason I see to use another is more ply's for safety. We did the Bear Tooth Chief Joseph and Glacier couple times on this tire and look for scenic rides. I have been riding slower on the trike verses 2 wheels in twists, but we do 80 on Interstates. I guess if you push a tire too hard none of them will last long. Our Fl winter riding is allot of turning through slow neighborhood roads 4k 2 winters and some of the roads are rough chip and heat decayed.I think a trike is hard on front tires, and it's a small price for riding these big toys. I think some of you are tire kicking the hell out of this tire. Why don't you try to design one that's almost free and lasts forever? and you'd still complain about ride or something that can't be quantified and identified in reality. This is 84 year old friend Hank with beer in hand who has never been on any bike until yesterday. It was a great ride and big smiles.

Holy Christmas, almost 20K on the Cobra, maybe I have greater respect for it. Got to keep an open mind here.

They can be ...... I know that maybe 10 years or so ago, we were visiting the original owners of our '97 GL1500 / Lehman GTL (SA rear) and he had a new Champion IRS unit completed and "4 sale" and invited me to take it for a hard spin .... it had a MPA on front. I pushed it hard enough in a few turns behind his shop up the mountain (he was still a dealer / installer at the time) hard enough to feel the front tire starting to side slip or nibble but the rears stayed firm.

No question in my mind which end will let go first.

I put my Avon trike tire on at 27770 miles. I now have 36171 on the bike so that is 8401 miles on my Avon. I love the way the trike handles with that Avon tire but really do not like the few miles I have on it. Tire looks to me that it is just past the wear bars. What do you think?

Sure looks like it to me......But that said the center of a motorcycle tire will ware much sooner on a trike than a bike.....I rode my Tri-Glide's stock front tire 3 or 4 thousand miles past the ware bars with out any problems ....And i'm not a hero if i thought they would need to be changed at that point i would have, Like i did on my two wheelers...

Ya I am thinking about trying to get a few more miles out of it. In two weeks I leave for a 1200 mile trip. I think it may be ok for that. I would love some opinions on this.

That's what my tire looked like at 9400 miles running 38 psi cold. I replaced the tire.

There is a definite trade off between tire ride, handling and comfort versus tire longevity and mileage.

I will choose tire ride, handling and comfort over longevity /mileage every time.

Me too .... tire mileage is lowest for my needs. Safety, handling, comfort, and noise for me.
Please keep in mind that anytime I share or give advice about a motorcycle, unless I state otherwise, I am always referring to GL1800's and no other.

I think that is not good. As I've mentioned on this thread, when my Avon Cobra is down to the wear bars, I'm done, either back to the BT 45, or Stone 709.

I have less than 200 miles on it but I think I like the way the BT45 feels better than the Cobra.Sticky, confidence inspiring in hard corning definitely goes to Cobra but the trike just has a freeer feel to it with the 45.I think the 45 holds well as fast as I should be cornering anyway and the style I use with it to corner hard is just more fun.I think I was on track for about 8k or so out of the Cobra. It was about half wore out at 4k.One thing to keep in mind when comparing these is the Cobra starts off with about 3/32 less tread than the 45.

Finally someone else has said it better then I may have. Thanks Marc. Id much rather have gotten another MPA or the 45 myself before the Avon. Live and learn as they say.

Running MPA reversed and I am just about to turn 50K put on at 11K with dyna beads and the cupping is hardly noticeable, yet it rides like a truck. Will switch to a Avon shortly.

Default There is no perfect one

It looks like no tire is 100% do everything, I wish Avon put more rubber on this tire. Even though the Avon trike is the only tire I know. I put it on when I bought the trike. It had a Mich with 20000 miles badly cupped, and now have 20k on the Avon with little cupping.

I see guys getting better miles for $50 less with the BT-45. With better miles maybe reduce that tire's pressure for softer ride ? All I got on a front BMW 2 wheeler was 22/25k
