Im curious because I find for me. Over 50mph this tire handles so differently then it does just cruising around town at 35mph. For me anyway it does. Im trying to give it some time for me to get used to the feel.

I'm finding it very different then the MPA which is the only front tire Ive had on the bike. I killed that one in 15K miles.
Yes, too much. I never bop around town on it. It is all highway miles. I love to take my day off once a weeks and ride. I think my personal high for one day off was 550 mile. We take one big trip every year, maybe 2400 to 2800 mile.

I had the MPA, it was OK I got 23K mile out of it, but really noisy compared the the Avon. I love the Avon, super smooth and quiet and handles better. Just ordered a new one. I do not even get a year out of those front tires. I guess I ride too much. Pushing 49K. I run 41 lbs cold. My short rake rides so much smoother at 41. I ran softer and felt ever single crack and bump and it felt strange with lower pressure.

I have never even ridden a trike before I bought this one. Never even test rode one. First time I rode it was the 380 mile ride home. I got used to it pretty quick.

I have the Traxxion AK-20 cartridges and stronger Traxxion springs on my trike and through four tires I have had no cupping; two BT45 and two Avon Cobra Trike tires. I run two up and heavy. I really wish Honda would address this.
what kind of mileage did you get with the Cobra tire ????

I only get about 10k running locally because of the constant twisties and chip-n-seal roads. Eats front trike tires. All of the trikes around here get 11-13k miles on any front tire if they stay local during the life of the tire.

Guys in flat country do much better on all tires.

Ive had a few days of riding to reconsider things.

    Since Avon recommends 38-40 psi.

I pumped the tire up to 40 psi cold. Its at 43-44 psi hot. Doesnt feel any different if I start at 38psi cold.

Ill leave it there till I cant take the bumping around and bouncy feeling Im getting.

Maybe I will eventually just get used to it??

It does ride smooth granted. But it just has alot of bounce to it like its on a pogo stick. Heaven help me hitting a pothole if I can find one here. Which I have not.

Im feeling every ripple and dimple in the roads here at slow speeds. 35-50 mph. Its fine and smooth as glass at highway speeds up to 80mph which is as fast as I will go.

I do have progressive springs a 4.5 degree raked front end and a fork brace.

I checked all front end bearings and everything is tight as a drum.

Now if I had my way........... and I know I do.

This tire would be at 33 to 36 psi cold max. That 39psi hot.

That gives me the comfort I want at all speeds. But the tire wont last and I know that.

Overall. I find I prefer a rear tire on the front. My trike (I) needs the weight up there.

Thanks for all the replies from all of you.

I will end by saying the tires not terrible at all. Just not what I thought it would be for me.

PS: can anyone tell me why when I post it all comes out double spaced between lines??

Not being negative here but. Funny. Im feeling everything you feel running at the higher pressures. I raise it and feel everything, lower the psi and I happy with the ride?? How opposite can 2 people be?? I was pretty happy with my MPA till it just cupped too much running it at a low psi of 36 for a 15K miles.

That's really strange. What size tires are you running on the back? Wonder it that makes a difference? I have 245 R45 17.

As the 2nd owner it came with new BFG TA 225-60-15s. Which I keep at 22.5 psi. The air ride with a full tank at 30 psi. Lower that to 25psi at about a half tank. I don't know what a different size tire would do or not do??

Having had zero trike experience it was an impulse buy.

I bought it from a used luxury type dealer in Texas.

Knowing what I know today Id have bought a totally different bike based trike.

Something else with a California side car kit more then likely.

Don't get me wrong the GW is bullet proof. The MT half not so much.

The short wheel base is what they say it is comfort wise. Nowhere near as good as a longer wheel based kit would be.

Im back to using my Yamaha Road Star 3 out of 5 days for commuting the last few months.

Ive got over 1 k miles on the new tire and my feelings toward it are still pretty much the same.

Ive kept it at 40psi this whole time. I find Im feeling the road a lot more in the front end then I did when I had a heavier rear tire on the front.

The tire rides smooth at highway speeds and handle's well. Its just has a twitchy feeling to it.

The heavier rear tire gave me a bit more confidence while maybe not as smooth a ride.

This isn't a bad tire so don't let my feelings change anyones mind about trying it.

My preferences are just different then most who have bought the Avon.

So I feel I should report back in every once in a while about it as I progress with it.

A MPA it isn't and one shouldn't expect it to be similar in ride and feel. It just isn't the same. No bad overall just different.

I just cannot decide if the AvonTrike Cobra is the there for me, I'm running and still can't decide. I'll probably go with the MPA next and see how that grabs me.

    Default Avon Trke Tire

We have mounted the Avon trike tire for several trike customers and have received great comments from all of them about how it rides and handles. We don't have any history yet how long they last, but as soon as I get some verified results I'll post again.

Id appreciate some real world reports.

More so, comparisons to the heavier rear tires most of us have used 1st. Then the Avon.

Me so far liked the heavier feeling the MPA gave me over this skinny lightweight tire.

Its a good tire. Just a very different feel.

Right Jay, as I've mentioned, I'm running the Cobra trike tire, and I don't feel that much improvement over the BT45 (rear) I was running, so I will probably give the MPA (rear) a try next, see if I can get a 'feel'. I'd like to get some feedback from someone who has run either the MPA or BT, then the Cobra. Difficult to get feedback from the Cobra since it hasn't been available for lots of miles yet.

I went from a regular front to the Avon. One extreme to the other I guess but overall I like the Avon better. It does ride better. As far as handling goes my feeling is the Avon is a friendlier tire.I feel I could could take corners as fast with regular tire but it was way more work.Turn in,apex,on the gas with good timing was required. The Avon likes the outside line and just have faith in it.Faith part is a bit hard and not as much fun as using the throttle and driving for the inside to make it turn. But its less of a workout and just as quick. The Avon is harder the to turn the bars but since it handles fine on the outside it isn't required either. That could be explained by the weight difference I guess.Champion kit on a 1500 Goldwing raked but unknown how much.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

It's every bit all of what I have stated.

I've had M-50 and MPA and now the Cobra Trike tires and for a guy who is willing to maybe trade a little tire life for a more rewarding Trike ride ... there will not be another M-50 or MPA on this couple's trike as long as the Cobra Trike tire is an option. I'll leave that half worn MPA hanging in the shed as a "last ditch spare" for now.

Replaced my first Avon Cobra Trike tire today, 11,600 miles, had 1/32" left to the TWI bar. I have to admit I'm disappointed with the mileage, but I really like the ride. I did replace it with the same thing, I bought it last summer on sale on line for $105-110 if I remember correctly.

I try to keep 41lbs in the front tire, but admit I don't watch it as close as I should. I also just installed a tpms system to help me do a better job at that. But there was no significant cupping in the tire. Also, I don't ride as aggressively as I did 10 years ago. The majority of those 11,600 miles were on 2 lane state highways pulling my 285lbs Lees-ure-lite camping trailer.

Just wanted to pass on the stats from my experience with this tire.

I'm not excited about that mileage for sure, but some seem to think the ride is worth it, and that's OK. I have a little over 7K miles on my Cobra and the tread still looks good, I'm thinking maybe 15K is what I'll get at the end of the road, and that may be ambitious, I'll see, don't want to prejudge. Even with that, doesn't even touch the BT45 (rear), so I will definitely try the MPA (rear) when I'm done with the Cobra.

Got my Cobra trike tire back on this evening. Went for short 25 mile test ride. WOW!! It's everything everyone said it would be. Would like to have an MPA to compare with.

I guess my experiences are different then most here. To me the Avon feels exactly as I remember a regular bike front tire felt like.....with all that a regular front tire had to offer. Which wasn't much. Ive read everything printed here in regards to the Avon tire. Truthfully I don't see any, not one advantage yet. To me its not at all like a rear mounted on the front. The only plus maybe and its a small one. Is maybe a smoother ride at 70mph. Im not seeming to be registering any advantages over a rear tire on the front. Especially at its cost. If anything, if 12K miles is its lifespan. Ill be stuck with this tire for 3 or 4 years at my current rate.................................. If it doesn't cup. Then It will have at least that as an advantage.
