In memory New London Texas school explosion

March 22, 2017 will mark the 80th anniversary of the worse school disaster in Texas history.

297 students, teachers and guests were killed when an undetected natural gas leak in the basement ignited into one giant explosion. No terrorists or ISIS, just human error. It was such a tragedy for the whole east Texas area. So many innocent lives lost. So many families changed forever. After this tragedy, legislation was enacted to add maleodorants in natural gas to detect the smell of gas.

This is a really sad history lesson, but history needs to be remembered.

Thanks for sharing Phillip, I've lived in Texas all my life and hadn't heard of this. Very tragic indeed. I did Google it and found quite a few stories available. Here's one of many available for those whom want to reflect on this sad story.

I heard about it from my Grandpa when I was just a pup. It really didn't sink in until I was in junior high. They do have a museum and memorial in New London.
