Is it a normal thing to get a " Clunking don't want to go into second gear noise" from 1st to second gear ?<br />
Only way to avoid it is to let the engine rpms go down to idle speed then will go into second without much (sometimes no) resistance.

Switch to Synthetic oil.. I had trouble with my bike sticking between gears I switched and now I don't even need the clutch.....
I switched to synthetic quite a while back---went to vtx forum and found this "clunking" between 1-2 2-1 to be a common denominator with the 1300's and the 1800's.

Try preloading the gear shift pedel. When going from 1st to 2nd, put some preassure on the pedel before you depress the clutch. Then with pressure on the pedel, depress the clutch. This has worked for me on my 2008 GoldWing.
Thank you! That solved the problem.

The "dogs" or slots in the VTX's shift drums are designed a little wider than many bikes and will have that distinctive clunk as they engage. I have triked dozens of VTXs and found that some are louder than others, but they all do it and triking it makes it more noticeable since the tranny clunk and clank sounds tend to resonate off the body. Ive had a couple of people swear I had screwed up their transmission since they had barely noticed it before being triked.
