Disappointments in aftermarket accessories

I always find "unexpected disappointments" with aftermarket accessories. Often, the disappointments are not discovered at first. In this case, I installed Polk db501's passenger speakers 3 years ago, and am in the process of replacing them when I find cracks.

disappointments:

- short life, they only lasted 3 years before no more sound

- their weight has cracked all 8 mount holes in their armrests

Were those speakers designed to fit the Wing or an automotive sound system speaker adapted to the Wing?

On my 1500 trike I upgraded the speakers and matched them to the sound system on the bike and went with marine grade ones. The originals that were there were pretty much shot and sounded lousy. Back in 1993 they were probably the same ones used in Honda cars.

No, they are not specifically designed to fit a GL1800. They're a common upgrade many use to get better rear sound out of a GL1800. The OEM and J&M's are designed for GL1800s, but they become screachy after a while. The Polks used are marine grade, they sound considerably better, but they go bad after about 3-4 years in my climate. I'm sure the plastic breaks because of the weight of the larger magnets.
