    Default Lift Kit for TriGlide

Question: does lifting the rear of a TG with a lift kit have an adverse affect on the steering effort? It seems to me that raising the rear would have a similar effect as would decreasing the rake angle & putting more weight onto the front end. Is this true?

Just the opposite......Makes the steering effort lighter, As been noted by quite a few uses[A hundred+?] of the lift kit....

If you install a lift kit I feel certain you will never remove it. Yes it does put a little more weight on the front Wheel just enough to keep it planted. It will increase handling across the board at all speeds. Also will make steering more positive and sure footed front end. That is my observations with Old Shiney. Ride safely Fred

Thanks Fred. This would be for my wife; her TG will be delivered to our home in a few days. I know she'll notice the steering effort - compared to what is was when she rode on 2 wheels - & I wouldn't want to make any mods that increased it.

    Kevinch,

The stock trike wants to 'plow' going into a corner. Referred to as 'understeer', meaning you are turning the handlebars but the trike wants to go straight. The lift kit reduces that effect. This is something several trikers have told me too, unsolicated. Ride safe!

One of the Best add-ons I've done. Much easier to steer the TriGlide. Mine is the DK Lift kit. Very happy with it, easy install. They are also one of our sponsors here. Give them a call if you have more questions.

    Enjoy your ride.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

I also installed the DK comfort lift kit this winter.

    Yes, more comfort.

    Yes, easyer steering

But, it feels in fast corners wobbly!

    Can anyone commit this behavior?

I have 23 psi in the rear wheels...probably more needed? (I test 26 today)

You may find that increasing the rear wheel pressures makes the trike feel less "planted" to the ground. I experimented with rear tire pressures between 20-22 psi and found for me, one up that 21 psi rears and 36 psi front with shocks at 16 psi was about ideal with a light load. As others have mentioned, the "wobbly" feeling can come from holding onto the handlebars too tightly. Might suggest holding them with a very light grip and you may find that you have been inducing "wobble" by holding on too tight to the grips. One of the important additions I made to my trike was some Harley-Davidson Get-A-Grip grips which were larger than stock, had a knurled finish and are ergonomically more comfortable for my hands which allowed me to keep less pressure on the grips. I think the stock thin grips encourage tighter hand holding of the handlebars.

Being new to the Tri Glide I have the same questions, Not knowing my own bike yet but reading a lot about the lift kits I also wonder what the benefits of installing the kit would be as I see no problem now. Doc

Just a thought double check air pressure in front tire I run 36/37 lbs. in front rear tires 20/21 handles like a rocket sled on rails for us. Old Shiney got a bit Squirrely when front tire was down a pound or two. It seems tire pressure is very critical to handling especially on front tire. As stated it could be the smaller grips, I can't attest to this I have large ones on from time of purchase. good luck please keep us posted on fix. ride safely Fred

Using the Comfort Lift™ will reduce steering effort. When using your front brakes it will put a bit more weight on the front tire, giving a bit better traction for braking.

It will also make for a smoother ride, and, of course, it levels out the Trike so the tail end is not sagging.

More details can be seen HERE.

When and if you put the kit on, make sure you follow the directions to the "T" or else you will be cursing to the gods.

He probably means to make sure the rear is hanging down on both sides.

Mounting holes won't line up if by jacking up one side at a time.

And now you can watch a video to help with the visuals for an easy installation!

My DK Comfort Lift install took about an hour. I can't see a reason to ever remove it. The trike now handles and rides like a dream. I can't give it anything but compliments. Can I buy stock in DK Custom Products?

Remember, if your front wheel is sliding sideways you're going too fast, roll off the throttle. . .it'll come back to you.

Thank you for the kind words.

I wondered how it could be much better myself, I didn’t think the steering and ride were too bad either but after a LOT of reading about the lift kits I decided to give it a try. Easy installation and noticeably easier steering on the first time out. Haven’t had a chance to ride it much to compare the ride but what little I have done it feels smoother also. I’ve seen other DK Customs products I’m interested in and recommend them.

    Default Convertible Comfort lift kit

I pulled the trigger and just upgraded my suspension to the 14" pro action and lift to go with it. Since I already had a lift installed I can not use it with the new setup. If anyone wants a Convertible Comfort lift from DK I will make you a great deal.
