Question Progressive Shocks / Installation Question

    Good Morning All...

I am in the progress of replacing the OEM shocks on my TG with a set of 444-4020 Progressives. I read on the installation instructions that they can be installed with the adjustment ring on either the top or bottom and of course adjustment will be much easier with it on the bottom. My question to those that have installed these shocks "upside down", have you had any issues that could be attributed to the installation?Given that the majority of users of this model of shocks have done the pre adjustment of 3 rings, it is highly unlikely that I will have to adjust after installation, but just in case.....Appreciate any feed back...Such a situation here north of 60* - too cold to work on the trike in the garage in the winter and then when it's a good temperature to work, I should be riding!!:icon_nut:CheersDoug

Doug I have had them on for over 3 years mounted upside down. 3 turns on the pre load. No issues and am happy with the ride. I weigh 220 and have probably another 40 to 50 lbs in the storage areas. Ride solo most of the time. I did ride once with a rider that weighted about 180 for 300 miles. Rode just fine.

+1 ~ almost exactly the same. And I see no reason not to mount them upside down. I have never felt anything coming from the shocks that even remotely made me worry. You will absolutely love them - jc

Thanks Gorilla and JC... I have one installed as recommended and will do the other one tomorrow.

Just as confirmation, when you say 3 turns that is 3 lines showing on the housing by the adjustment collar?

Looking forward to a test ride and hopefully my GPS (Gal on the Passenger Seat) will feel the difference. Just couldn't get the OEM shocks dialed in to be comfortable... If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy...

    Cheers

Turn all the way out then 3 whole turns in on the preload Might need some adjusting for your load but I would not think more then 1/2 turn either way.

Hi Doug!! I also had a set of 444's installed on my 2013 Trike with the 3 rings setting and the difference between the OEM Air Shocks and the 444's was night and day, but when I decided to increase the turns to 3 1/2 I had a hell of a time making the adjustment. I only changed it to hopefully deal with some luggage we were planning to take on a trip. Upon returning from the trip I noticed the extra 1/2 turn rode a little rougher than I liked, especially solo. I did turn them back to 3 turns, and I weigh 165 lbs and the wife weighs about 120 lbs, this is only provided as a reference information.

I have subsequently changed my shocks to the Pro-Action system and can say they made as much difference going from the 444's to the Pro-Action as was the difference from OEM Air to the 444's!! Both the wife and I are extremely happy with the ride, both solo and two-up.

Good luck with your installation and I hope you really like them!!

Thanks to all that provided feed back regarding the Progressive installation.

I finished the install as well as polishing up my wheels mounted with new Michelin Defenders before putting them back on the TG. Also have the polished SS discs behind the wheels now so looks great! Also removed that useless piece of crap of a park brake while she was up in the air. Replaced it with a Velcro strap on the front brake - more efficient, a lot lighter and easier to adjust.

Went for a good ride this afternoon and my bride was very impressed with the improved ride quality!! It'll never be a Cadillac ride but it sure is a vast improvement over stock, especially on the back roads here in New Brunswick... Not likely up to the ride quality of a couple of other brands that are popular here on the forum but then again they weren't near as spendy either.

Another riding season is officially under way here in the North country!!

    Cheers

    Doug

Doug I rode your fine providence a couple of years ago from Key Largo. The progressives were on then and I was very happy with the ride. My wife on her Stallion and me on the TRI rode for 2 weeks around Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Price Edward love Canada

That was quite a trip and if you were happy with your Progressives on some of our Maritime roads that speaks volumes for the ride quality!!

Let me know if you are ever up this way again...

    Cheers
