Nat'l Park Lifetime pass for 62 and older

Right now, Americans ages 62 and older can score a senior lifetime pass to national parks, monuments and other federal recreational lands for just $10. But according to AARP, the pass price is expected to jump to $80 — the same fee charged for a standard annual pass — later this year.

Although it’s unknown exactly when the fee hike will be implemented, the U.S. Department of the Interior says it does not expect changes to the senior pass price or program “within the next few months.”

I have an America The Beautiful, The National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Pass. I have used it the last two years and love it. Everywhere we go when traveling to National and most State Parks I've used it. If you can get one do it!

I went on a little ride today and I happened to think that I was only 30-40 minutes each way to one of the locations listed where this permit is available. I stepped up and told them what I needed........they were out! Said they run out Saturday but they have ordered more. Oh well, another excuse for a ride.

I would fully support senior citizens (65 and older) be given a free pass to all of our national parks. I mean, why not extend this privilege to the folks who have contributed taxes over a long life.

It looks like the total cost of the Lifetime pass is actually $20 which includes a $10 document processing fee.

Probably if you mail order, but not if you sign up in person at a national park. Mine was face value cost last year.

Spoke to a ranger the other day and he said the price IS going up. Either 1 Oct or 1 Jan.

I have a Lifetime Pass and being a Disabled Veteran there was No Charge for it. i was told any Vet with a 50 % or more rating can apply for it. Bring your DD-214 with you and your VA rating.

Have had mine for 14 years now and think it crazy for them to go up on it. Even if they do hike it to the $80.00, from what I've heard, it will still be only a 1 time fee. Where the $80.00 annual fee would be every year.

Noticed you used Mt. Rushmore in your posting. The park it's self if free, no Nat'L Park Pass. BUT you have to pay for parking. The parking garage is leased out to a concessionaire. Back several years ago they would let bikes in for 1/2 price, which at that time was $4.00. A few years back they started charging FULL price for bikes, $8.00. There was maybe 12 bikes in our group one afternoon rode down to watch the night lights. We all went up to the top level of the garage and parked 1 bike per space, where back in the day we'd park 3-4 bikes in each space. An attendant came running over said we needed to park more than 1 to a space. We told him you charge us full price to park so we figured that entitled us to our own space. He told us they'd run out of parking if everybody parked the way we parked. We told him to go down and talk to the man taking the money.

If you have a permenant disability you can also get them without charge for lifetime without being a veteran. You need a letter stating that it's a permenant disability from your doctor. I know that a P2A qualified in my case.

If you travel and stop at any National Parks it is worth every penny you paid for your card, for the sites you will see and the people you will meet.

The primary reason my tradition of having ice cream with George and the boys came to a halt. I can remember when that disaster of a garage did not exist. Much as I can remember the Jackpine Gypsies M/C running the rally before the city and state got greedy. One could actually sit outside Gunners with a carry out cup and not get busted. Now days it seems the baby strollers out number the bikers.

I just got one yesterday @ $10.00 each for myself and the wife. We picked it up @ Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Oyster Bay, LI, NY. If possible pick them up @ one of the National Parks that sell them. Otherwise by mail or online, the cost is $20.00 with a waiting period of 6 weeks. Their website will indicate which National parks sell them.

I think you will find it depends on Congressional action with regard to funding for our parks. With Trump, who knows what will happen. But, I would consider the source. Would anyone believe much of what AARP says anyway.
