I can't ride my Stallion in Canada

OMG...I have recently discovered the coolest new Trike from Thoroughbred Motor Sports in the USA.
Their TRIKES are for the AGING, HANDICAPPED, LESS ABLE as well as ALL trike lovers of ALL ages!
I even have one...lol...but I can't ride it on our Canadian highways!
:(
TRANSPORT CANADA has decided in their infinite wisdom to disallow TRIKES of any kind in their assembled state as an Import to Canada ,regardless if it meets height and safety requirements!::confused:
They will allow all other makes of Motorcycles, Cars, Trucks, Semi-Trucks, Boats and any and all other vehicles you can name but not assembled Trikes!
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD ANYTHING MORE ABSURD??

As you all know, the Thoroughbred Stallion is the most absolute fun in riding and traveling that you can find on 2, 3 or 4 wheels.
It not only has a steering wheel, it also a Ford Fusion Engine and Automatic Transmission, air ride, adjustable brake and throttle control, tilt steering column, cruise control, heat and air-conditioning, 7cu ft of cargo trunk space etc. etc. etc.
I could go on forever with this Trike and how it could change my life.

No Canadians are allowed to have one of these incredible machines and unless someone buys the franchise, sets up an assembly plant, imports the parts and assembles them here in Canada ...we are :censored: out of luck!:p
If that is even possible? :banghead:

I have mine because it was in an accident in British Columbia, Canada and needed repairs and was subsequently left here in Canada.
Thanks to my incredibly talented husband, I now have a fully functional Trike that needs a little fiberglass repair.:woohoo::yourock:
Not that it matters at this point because I will probably have to sell it back to the U.S.A on eBay or something.
The thought of that just breaks my heart!!!:(
If you had one in your driveway like i do, you would understand my angst.

Anyway, thanks for listening to the ranting of this Aging, Disabled Lady Rider and please take the time to Join my Group " CALLING ALL CANADIAN/AMERICAN MOTORCYCLISTS...WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! " and post/share it on your FaceBook if you believe that this is AN INCREDIBLY STUPID LAW and that it should be changed and changed very soon....V (", :banghead:

WOW V's Stallion, that is just incredible. I knew that they were reviewing the Stallion, but had heard the out come. Has anyone contacted Jeff Vey owner of TBMS to see if they are doing anything? These government agencies can be a pain, but I don't understand that one. The Can-Am Spyder is okay because it is built in Canada but a Stallion is not because it is built in the United States. I guess that means that the Harley Tri-Glides are also not allowed? I wonder what Harley thinks of that?

Oh by the way welcome to the site. See if you can get the Stallion titled as a assembled vehicle based on it being in a crash and needed to be rebuilt. Just a thought if you even have that type of title.

Thank you so much for the welcome and yes, we have contacted TBMS and they say that they have done everything that has been asked of them by Transport Canada but because there is an actual rule that there will be NO trade of TRIKES from the U.S.
So the point is moot!
Thank you for the suggestion of the assembled vehicle.
We will have to look into it tomorrow.
We have already replaced the right rear axle, rotar and rim as well as the windshield with the help of Thoroughbred in DFW.
I wonder if that would be enough to make it "assembled", along with new fiberglass of course???
This is why I am asking for the support of everyone I can convince to join my facebook group below, until I can figure out how to make a proper petition.

OH, and you can call me V... (",

I believe Harley gets around it by doing the finishing assembly here in Canada and unfortunately, thoroughbred doesn't have an assembly plant in Canada yet, but they will. People trip over their feet, screech to a halt and back up half a block or go around the block to get a better look at my machine. People stop and talk every time someone is outside my house to ask questions to... all love it and I cant wait to drive mine without having to rent a track for 3 hours

I also wonder if it is only us and because we are Canadians, that we have rarely got a call back from TBMS?? We have requested and ordered several parts from them and only because we have persisted is it that we have received them. We are now looking for a price on one of the extra fiberglass shells they have back up on "the hill" . We have called 3 times and talked to several different people and so far...no answer???

V, so sorry to hear about this frustrating mess!!!!! We have another Canadian member having similar issues with the REWACO trikes from Germany! (trikectr is his handle here, if you want to contact him). Stallions are very fun to ride! I can only imagine your frustration! but I am so glad you have joined TrikeTalk.

I have been across the border more than once and had not really planned to return, but if I do....they surely will let me slip in. I have LEHMAN scripted right across the rear of my kitted Ultra. Lehman (being a Canadian based firm) may be okay.

This is what you get when the inmates run the asylum. The folks out on the left coast are legislating what type of light-bulb is legal, but you can ride through many of those small towns and get high on the second-hand weed smoke and nobody seems to care.

An ATV is street legal in Montana for goodness sakes! I hope this crap does not migrate too far south and east until I am gone.

I guess I can add this to one more reason I don't need to go to Canada again! Besided Canada being Anti-Gun. GL getting approved, if all else fails you can come to a Country that respects it's residents freedoms (at least on a state level)... for now....?;)

AWWWW cmon fellas, Canada is exquisite, minus a few stupidity issues but you also don't have to wear a bullet proof vest to go to the corner store...lol
but seriously the thing i love about Canada is that we are very respectful of personal rights, even if we are overly protective about some things... (",
1550vt, I believe the LEHMAN would be allowed because of Canadian origin...lucky you...sob...lol
Nana, thank you for triketrs' info...maybe he will have a trick or two for me...
i'm thinking that if I can't wait for legislature, I will have to try the "assembled vehicle" concept and maybe put a new laid back seat in it and make it a one-seater.
I am a retired upholsterer and that would be easy for me, and as my disability makes it hard to sit so straight up and down with no other option, i would have a legitimate reason...
i will also cut and enforce a step through to make mounting and dis-mounting a little easier.
my husband believes he can do that for me with a little pocket door.
i know it means bastardizing the Stallion, but at least i would be able to ride...maybe that will be enough change for our peoples rules.
with any luck, i will be riding by next summer... :)

You are quite right about Canada being exquisite, V! My mom and one brother still live out near Vancouver, BC and I get out there a couple of times a year for a visit. There are some issues with their system of government that are not so exquisite, as some have mentioned and as you are currently experiencing; however there are many things to love about Canada, and I do!

awwwww, thanks Nana. i'm glad there are some of you 'all who still love us. <3 I saw on the members map that there is someone in saskatchewan, canada. do you know if they have a stallion? ? or do they have a different kind of trike? love yours, btw (",

We actually have several Canadian forum members, V, but I think you are the first from Canada with a Stallion. Hope someone corrects me on that if I'm wrong..... (like you've ever waited for an invitation before. LOL! :p)

Meanwhile, Canuckhoss is another Alberta member. He has Boss Hoss and Rewaco trikes, but he might be a good one to get in contact with.

thank you Nana...trust it to ME...V... to get the only one in the country...lol
i'm also the only VLinda (spelled that way) on FaceBook...hahaha
when my husband saw my Stallion on kijiji he had to have it for me...even it is just so we can rent a track for 3 hours and go have a hellofaday!!!!! :)
i will look forward from hearing from Boss Hoss and Rewaco trikes.
it is now going into the garage for the winter and we will pull the old shell off and either fix it or buy an old fiberglass shell from tbms...if they get back to me at all :(
Take care and have a great day...V

V, welcome to the site. I guess if the rules don't change you'll have to get a relative or friend you REALLY trust in the States, & register your stallion in their name, and get a note from them saying they store it at your place but you are allowed to drive it. I know it's a round about way of doing things, but you.ll have to keep all options open. I go to Canada quite often & I make sure I get a Insurance Card from my insurance copmpany stated that I am covered in other Countries. Anyway good luck.......

tis, thank you very much for the welcome. everybody has been so nice. we have thought about doing it your way but unfortunately, neither my husband nor i have any connections in the States, let alone a friend and someone we can trust... ;(
and this is the hard part...because it was salvaged in Canada, i have to track down the owners widowed wife to get title papers...eeek.
don't know if i can do that....
my husband is going over it with a fine toothed comb to make sure everything is working right....we had issues with the brakes when we first started and moved it but we have went through them one by one.
we have recently discovered the front wheel has not been put on according to the arrow on the tire.
does any one think that this will be an issue or is it just a suggestion???

"V" I would suggest that the tire be put back the way it shows it should. I'm sure it's just for the water flow.

I was stationed at a NORAD base for 4 years. 50% Canadian and 50% Us airmen. Best times of my life. I had a lot of great Canadian friends.

I wish we could do more for you to get the Stallion legally registered to you.

hey tmigala....thanks for the advice.
I sincerely hope it wasn't a factor in the cause of the accident it was in, here in Canada.
My husband is going to go over it completely this winter.
The tire will be put back on correctly this time.
I am soooo glad you had such a good experience with us Canadians.
We try very hard to keep our reputations in tact. :)

#266...V
