    Default Help for Vet w/Trike

Not often on this HD Forum b/c I've been a GoldWing Guy for years. But a good friend with an HD/Trike has an issue and I'm hoping to help him.

Military Veteran after stroke has no use of his left arm/hand/fingers and already had the Pingle Electronic Shifter installed (on left handlebar), but needs to move the buttons/controls to the right handlebar. Installer said, they can't do that job! HD Trike, here's the pic of the control buttons >>>> Name: PastedGraphic-6-5.jpg

not familiar with the shifter but harness length would be the only factor I can see off the top of my head

I think the issue is a simple relocation cannot be done b/c the right grip needs to be able to move for throttle. The left grip is stationary and secured under the switch control housing and the 2 button Pingel switch will not attach to the right bar without interfering with the throttle control. Relocating the button(s) below the grip similar to the Kliktronic is probably the only choice for single handed operation. I suppose he has somehow managed his clutch actuation.

I can see where there may be a problem. It looks like it clamps around the grip alongside the switch housing, on the throttle side it would turn with the grip and not be fixed in place.

If someone is willing pay for it , It can be done.....The problem is at 100 dollars a dealers book hour, Making mounts and extending cables ,And making sure it all will work going down the road, Very few are willing to pay... Ive had costumers ask me to do some unorthodox stuff ...And when i said to them not only will i charge for the time to do it , But also for the fact that i know how to do it...And thats where they say never mind...

May be worth reaching out to the folks at disabled motorcycle rider.. Looks like they offer a "custom" right hand option for an electronic shifter. Might be the simplest solution to your issue.

    Default Pingle switch location

Ok i am real familiar with the pingle shifters. I ran them for years on diff drag bikes i built. The switch is nothing but a 3 wire switch that works the same as a rocker switch. One hot wire and 2 wires out to the control box. . Just get a good rocker switch and find a good place to mount it. Make sure you have a rocker switch of good quality. Cut your wires from the pingle switch and connect them to the rocker switch. What the pingle switch does is when you press either button for up or down shifts. You send a momentary 12 volt current to the shifter box to make the cylinder shift up or down. You just want to hit the rocker switch a bump and release the rocker button to make it shift. The pingle switch can be moved to the throttle side also. Just need to move out the throttle perch out a bit and move pingle switch over to the throttle side. If i were closer i would be glad to help.About a 15 min job. Hope this helps and if needed hit me up and i can give more help. Thanks Booggerbe (Ron)

I am a disabled veteran also, and your post is right on. Pingle shifters work just as you state. Good rocker switches can be easily obtained. I know our brother appreciates your input.

    Hey Booggerbe,

What your saying to total Greek to me. However I would be willing to kick in a little coin to help one of our Disabled Vets get his shifting issues solved and back to getting some wind in his face. How much are we talking about to fix this guy up?
