Help! What front fork to use?

Hello,

New member here. Rebuilding my trike from the ground up. The front steering Neck hole is 1 1/4" x 5 5/8" tall frame is from 1977. Anyone give me some ideas of shock options? Prefer regular shock over springer. Will hyabussa or other more current front end work? Thanks

Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of good folks and info here. Checkout the "So you want to build a trike" sticky thread in the vw trikes forum for a lot of good general info. What front end was on the trike before?

1. Buy a raked front triple tree from papa Zook ( forum owner ) for considerably less than you will pay anyone else and it is a quality tree. It will come with everything you need including extensions to level the trike. Simple to install. ( if you think I'm kidding check prices ) You can trust him not to burn you and if you have problems he is phone call away.

2. Front end tubes and lowers are not really all that expensive off EBay and I recommend heavy duty springs from progressive, They aren't all that expensive either.

You may need a front brake splitter and a wheel, possibly brakes and lines?

3. If you do decide to keep the springer front end it IS possible to get a raked stem to kick the front end out but I don't know much about installation. Ask Zook?

Probably much cheaper in the long run going with a system you already have?

Tube installation, Put away your pipe wrench you don't need it.



This tree will come with upper tapered bearing you will need to get a new stock lower bearing. Slack is taken out from below the stem with a 3/8" socket wrench and the front brake splitter attaches at that same spot. Tighten upper stem nut at least 20 -25 lbs. tighter than stock. Don't worry about fall away it no longer counts.

The upper tube screws into the upper tree so you cant screw up on alignment.

The lower tree has set screws to tighten the lower tree clamp and is very much better than stock.
